Bicycle recovered, man shot at.... in Santa Cruz, CA..??
Our nice little town is getting infiltrated by gangs etc.... it super-sucks..!!
on the bright side, this guy recovered his son's SS bike, but got shot at
while riding it on the way home.... WTF..?? and I can't believe someone
'refused' when he asked for help after the shooting.... I guess they didn't
want to possibly get shot at either, but still, at least call 911 for the guy..??
Damn.

I swear this world is getting worse and worse by the minute. It's weird, I'm 27 and it feels like I'm between generations or something. On one hand I remember when that kind of stuff was unheard of, but on the other I'm not at all surprised. I'm glad the father wasn't hurt and at least he got his kid's bike back. Hope they catch the 3 a-holes.

Selfish behavior
Hearing that the neighbor refused to help, that person deserves to be robbed or beaten.

Well... to be honest, that guy was probably freaking out and pounding on the door and demanding help. who knows who lived in that house. what if it was an old lady or something? i'm not sure if all of us would willingly open our door to a frantic stranger after hearing 3 gunshots go off

the slow decline of mankind. I know what you mean about being stuck between generations. It seems as society as a whole grows more and more numb to everything around them. My wife wonders if it's always been this way and she is just now noticing it, or is it really declining. I'd like to think it hasn't always been that way..

This is what happens when you let criminals and drugs flow unimpeded into the country. Eventually we will not be able ot ride out bikes or go to the beach or you fill in the ________________ or we have to enforce our laws and sovereign nation status.

Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers.

Your wife is closer to the truth. Actually, things are getting much, much better, with every year that passes. Your chances of being murdered today are just about nil; a few thousand years ago, it would have been about one in five if you're male. But it used to be that people didn't have TV and internet news, so they didn't hear about as much trouble. Plus, our standards are evolving faster than our behavior, and being let down in the process.

If you're 27, then violent crime is now lower in the US than it was at any other point in your life.

People knocking on the door asking for help is the way some home invasions are reported in the newspapers to start.

Im sorry to hear this about Santa Cruz. Back around 1960 I was in the Navy at Moffett Field. We used to go to the beach there all the time. Maybe the people in Az are right after all.

There really doesn't need to be ...
Bike was stolen.
Dad sees thief, confronts thief, thief runs.
Dad rides off on recovered bike.
Thief comes back with help (or help arrives that thief called) and shoots at dad.
Dad tries to get help.
Woman in house heard gunshots a minute ago, now hears a guy banging on her door wanting in. She doesn't know this guy, he could be lying, and even if she did trust him -- the shooter may be nearby and would know where she lives and she doesn't want the local criminals to notice her.
Unfortunately, this is a risk one takes when confronting a thief. It's unlikely, granted, but it does happen.

The article states the complainant refused to state what words were exchanged. The absence of certain information from the complainant is the key.
"Three men were in the pickup. Campos declined to release descriptions of them or say what the two sides yelled at one another. He said detectives are investigating the case." Campos was the investigating officer (or some sort of officer involved in the case), not the complainant. Read the article again.
The father chased the thief in his truck, confronted him, the thief ran away, presumably got help, came back, found the father, we don't know what was said (does it really matter? thieves don't like being confronted! The father may have messed with somebody in a gang!) and shots were fired.

Cycle Year Round
Reading the article it states the perp came back after the bike was recovered...very rare. The article states the complainant refused to state what words were exchanged. The absence of certain information from the complainant is the key. These two groups know each other. Again there is more to this. All the other stuff is irrelevant. Further I'll bet the person who refused admittance knows them both.
Pretty screwed up that cops will not give the public the descriptions of such scum.
