In Britain, 1876, it is recorded that a coach driver whipped a cyclist who was passing him. The conductor of the same coach threw an iron ball, attached to a rope, into the spokes of another cyclist riding with the first, bringing him down.

We have come a long way, baby.

Also, in the late 1930's (Britain), there were about 9 million regular cyclists. There were only about 2 1/2 million regular motorists at that time.

Back to the Future?

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of the Shirlock Holmes detective mysteries, said that he thought up many if his ideas for those stories while out riding his tricycle.

Albert Einstein also claimed this source of inspiration.
