Check.

So cyclists ride on sidewalks out of spite of the law?

Why not take their advice? Do you want to read what elegant "flowery" language looks like that isn't distracting to the reader? Read something by nabokov.

haha, interesting...in his latest piece (see post #63) DP1113 says:

I’m not in the best of shape, but I’d say I’m the average San Antonian, a little overweight, with Type II diabetes and the occasional ED but bicycling to work will get me fired, not fit.

Based on the general cycling post, OP's writing has not improved. But it not just him. I recently went back to college and got a second degree, my first was in 1979. And I will tell you, the current state of written communication is not good. It is very poor. Not sure what the high schools are teaching, but its not effective writing. And just to add a bit of rant, I was a teaching assistant in economics, and basic math skills are even worse.

Yeah, hard to believe so many missed the point of bringing up the old post in relation to OPs new cyclist hating thread. Demonstrating the Mega Troll aspect of the OP.

In my defense, the OP had just started a new troll post in General cycling, so I looked for his other posts and found this, but forgot to check the date. My humble apologies.

I think the lack of communication ability and poor analytic thinking both result, at least partially, from the work place's/society's devaluation of liberal arts majors. Every published list warns people not to major in history, philsophy, English, and literature...well, those disciplines teach how to think and write. With all due respect to business majors, when I went to college they were generally not the sharpest tacks (with the exception of accounting). The 700 SAT "student athlete" didn't major in philosophy, he majored in business.

Now they get preference in the work place and I'd say, from first hand experience, have inferior training for how to function in an office. I can't believe some of the gross incompetence I've seen from finance majors and MBAs. Many can't communicate a thought or write an email vaguely resembling an idea. The training is too narrow and I think we're churning out used car salesmen.

The quality of HR and recruiters doesn't help; you typically have a 24 year old kid trying to match a work order to a resume with no idea how to hire a competent person. The current economy has also led to companies expecting exact job matches with no desire to train. You end up with a good résumé and a new employee who isn't developed (assuming they don't go for an h1B Visa at half the labor rate and pretend no one in the US had the job skills). I'd rather hire someone trained to think and communicate; someone well rounded that can be trained. We have EVP's who can't read.

DP1112,

I personally enjoyed the article. People are quick to forget that the newspaper was the original public opinion forum. Just like people do on this website, say what you want. As far as people criticizing your writing style, please ignore that. I find it refreshing to see someone with comprehension of the English language. In this day and age ya c 2 many peeps rightin lyke dis. So please, keep up your writing and continue to develop "your voice".

Cheers.

but a lousy 'advocacy' message consisting of get out of the way for safety, wrapped in the lowest quality broadsheet that seemed to lack any editorial oversight.

Anti-bicycling attitudes call for criticism at a bicycling safety and advocacy forum, don't they? Maybe I'm mistaken about that.

How do you know we haven't? If the OP posts something on a public forum, he should expect criticism. Relax.
