I've almost been killed by people's cravings for Big Macs. You need something less desirable

I had a moron pass me on my left when I was in a left hand turn lane just so that he could get to McD's.

One person's treasure is another person's garbage. Several years ago, I stopped into McDonalds for lunch, which was the first time I patronized McDonalds in many years, either my tastes have changed over the years or McDonalds has really downgraded their Big Mac.

I've often thought of doing this. On divided roads, that sounds like a very good solution.

I go there occasionally, but all I can stomach anymore is their grilled chicken sandwiches and salads. Never occurs to me to order anything else (though at a burger king I'll order a whopper reflexively and at taco bell I'll go with a 7 layer burrito and whatever new thing they have and regret both choices later). Fortunately, there's no fast food in my town, so there's not that much temptation there. I still make bad choices at the chinese takeout, though but those few vegetables make me feel a little better about it.

Yeah, I've encountered that too.

I considered starting a thread debating whether nice people are st00pid or st00pid people are nice, based on a couple of incidents on my commute home yesterday where people who were trying to be nice to me on the bike really just gummed up the whole thing because they refused to take their turn when they had the right of way. I was crossing a fairly busy 5-lane at one point. There was a gap in the southbound traffic so I went halfway, to the center left-turn lane. While waiting for northbound traffic to clear, one car in the left lane slowed down and eventually stopped, trying to let me go by. A nice gesture, but I don't trust the people in the right northbound lane to do likewise, so I waved him on. I wasn't in anyone's way in the center lane; no one was turning left. Just keep going and I'll wait until the light a quarter mile down changes, thank you very much....

2 minutes? Pffft. If there aren't any cars coming in either direction, I'm gone.

The other day at Park and High Street, there were cars coming from everywhere but my direction, so I dropped the kickstand, walked over and hit the ped crossing button, walked back, and got on my bike.

It's worked for me. I think that the only time that I wouldn't do this would be if there was a median that ran a block or longer.

That's how it works when crossing 4th St. N. in front of the apartment complex that I live in. Our main driveway is between two stop lights. One less than 1/4 mile to the south and another about a 1/2 mile to the north. With this setup it is safer to start across the street, than wait in one of the medians for traffic from the other direction to stop at one of the stop lights. And than continue across when the road is clear.

Running the light is not always an option. I was stuck at a light recently where it cycled between cross-traffic and oncoming left-turn lane (across me). It would have been suicide for me to run the red.

A biker (motor) came up and we discussed the problem for a bit until some opposite through traffic tripped the light our way, and we both agreed that it was a nice day to be riding.

wait two cycles? if the sensor is not detecting there will be no cycles.

this law will just give an excuse to not properly design, set up and maintain lights sensor.
