Helmet trouble

Hi Folks,

No, I'm not about to raise the old debate. I just wondered if other folks with children have had trouble with the so-called "PinchGuard" helmet buckles that are featured on many of the helmets for juniors?

For the life of me, If I have the straps adjusted properly, and seemingly the more careful I am to prevent it, the buckle will not snap together without pinching my Son's chin. He's happy to wear the helmet, but if anything is going to put him off, it is a helmet that has him squealing with pain when I help him put it on . An ordinary buckle might well be in his future....

The good news? his training wheels came off this weekend

I fell in love with the FAS chinstraps on my old Uvex touring helmet. They make a kids helmet, the Hero, that might be your huckleberry.

I've had the experience. Now, I put my pinky between the pinchguard buckle and his chin.

And the winner is...... my finger! Several trips to and from preschool with no pinch - I've even convinced the lad that there's nothing to worry about, so he doesn't get apprehensive about putting the bucket on at all.

Excellent - thank you again for the suggestion, invisiblehand
