This is funny. What this derriere-chapeau is suggesting is basically grade-separated bike paths in the city. He comes from the same assumptions that the Copenhagenistas around here do: being out of sight-lines is okay at intersections, no one rides very far anyway so why worry about an integrated system, everyone rides at less than 12 mph, so why worry about faster riders, make everyone ride like a noob and we'll get more people to ride. His tone is anti-bike, but his message is the same as oh-so-many so-called bike advocates: cars and bikes can't safely share the roadways.

Stop training in downtown / center city! This is ridiculous, you cant b*tch about not being able to fly through the crowded streets in a congested city where none of the cars can either. If you want to kick it up to 500W, warm up on the way out of the city, punch it, cool down on the way back into the city. With that much traffic, slower speeds are expected, there are traffic lights everywhere

Bike lanes inside the city is a great idea and I can't see why everyone thinks this guy is the devil. Are any of the other politicians up there doing anything to help the situation or are they pretty much saying go F yourself, try not to get hit by my Mercedes? This guy is trying to help cyclist (based solely on the video) even though his initial words are a surely a poor choice. If you weren't a cyclist, I'd bet most people would have used the exact same words, I'm sure I would have

I sense the frustration in the video. I think the sidewalks are fine for those that want to get around that way. I don't know what the big deal is. Why can't the motorists see the cyclist in the streets and go around them, no animosity, just people going where they're supposed to go ? And not worrying about who woke up that AM to spite them that day intentionally ? There are times that the sidewalks are too busy with pedestrians, cyclist that are at that level of skill need to realize a pedestrian takes precedence on that solution.

Just to give you an example, Bal Harbor, FL doesn't want cyclists on the sidewalks, so much that it's posted to that effect. Anyway, I can see their point, most of the folks that are on the sidewalk are nearly dead in terms of their lifespan anyway. And as a cyclist, if I ever was to be on the sidewalk and someone's great grandmother was walking on it, I wouldn't even come close to the elderly. Most anyone is smart enough to see and respect that. Well, maybe you might have some punks that will always push common sense. But everytime I've ever gone thru Bal Harbor, sorry, the elderly is a rare sighting on the sidewalk walking in 90+* temperatures, in between rain outbursts even. So is it a big deal for a cyclist to momentarily ride on an empty sidewalk for a 1/4-1/2 mile stretch ? Especially when the city is digging up the streets at what few intersections to install a brick walkway where these lines were painted ? When a car will not allow you to ride a bicycle, the street is torn up, the sidewalk is open and there are no elderly pedestrians ? Too funny, the street view has a single elderly pedestrian, the more recent pic of the entire area and there isn't a single pedestrian in that aerial.

I'm fat and I ride a bike. I also do not hate motorists. But he's not really fat himself, he's just full of crap and hot air. All I can say about how he got elected is someone must have spiked the kool-aid on voting day.

He also enjoys driving and talking on his cell phone at the same time.
You'd think only small towns would manage to elect winners like this guy.

He got elected because people liked his message- he would handle the city's finances well.
ONe reason this worked- MOst people don't read the newspaper. (now that people are getting to know Ford, his popularity is going down. It's all stuff people could have known before but people vote without paying much attention).
He was saying some pretty ignorant stuff about the city budget during the election. But a lot of people make their choice based on watching a few news clips.

well the news is always right. I base all of my economical, political, and familial decisions based on my local evening news/dan rather.

Ford is part of the right wing anti-intellectual movement.

He dropped out of college after one year. He took a few continuing education courses after that. Academic wash out.

His arguments show it too. They are built on extreme ignorance and pathetically bad logic.

I-I-I-I-I-uh-uh-uh-uh-I-I-I-I-uh-uh--

Okay, that's enough, but really he should not be a mayor if he stutters too much.

But then I have a hearing impairment as I have trouble understanding what he's saying as he's speaking way too fast. That's way too fast in the first video in the first post. Automatic audio transcription may not work 100% of the time, especially with stutters.
