I am an organ donor, and part of being human is dying at the end, so not only is if fun to say, but in this case, you are correct.

The benefit of ABS for highly skilled drivers (I do not count myself in that category) is questionable. But ABS certainly is useful for the average driver who doesn't have any particular skill and doesn't care to develop any.
Which, perhaps, is exactly true of cyclists and helmets as well.

Good question. I have had the donation sticker on my driver's license since I was eighteen. Whether any of my parts are worth donating at this point is open to question, of course...

Isnt it amazing how some people are reduced to name calling when people dont agree with their point of view?? It seems to be their way or the hiway. When real life events or logic is presented, they just start their name calling.

Except that there were several studies done to examine why ABS didn't produce the expected safety benefits (some of which I cited previously) and they found that drivers in cars equipped with ABS drove significantly more aggressively than drivers in otherwise identical cars but without ABS. So contrary to your hypothesis, it wasn't that the drivers failed to change their behavior when driving with ABS but that they changed their behavior in ways that actually contributed to creating more dangerous situations.

This post is not for those who wear helmets nor is it for those who have decided not to wear a helmet. But if you are the fence, I strongly urge you to wear a helmet every time. An uncle was "talked" into wearing a helmet (or to put it more bluntly, "wear a helmet or you are not allowed to ride in our group anymore" ). After his accident, Hershey Medical center had his helmet on displayed for years. The display was very convincing . The other point I make is that most falls are not anticipated and many happen so fast that there is no time to react. I personally experienced such a fall this year , when two large , unleashed dogs appeared out of no where. I squeezed my new brakes a tad too hard, went over the bar and the side of my protected head hit the pavement hard , cracking the helmet in two places, but sparing my head from any serious damage.

While boating my likelyhood of PFD use is inversely proportional to size of craft, as a general rule.
While cycling I do not take size nor weight of bicycle into consideration for helmet use, merely style of cycling I'm doing. Works for me.

Yes, I am part of a sock puppet mafia which includes Rando, Six Jours, Rydabent, and others. We are actually one person suffering from multiple personality disorder. Who we are decides whether or not we wear a helmet while riding any given day... We also like arguing with ourselves on BF.

Depends if she knew how to swim or not... If she knew how to swim, than most likely it didn't matter if she had a life jacket on (unless she hit her head on the edge or the bottom), if she didn't know how to swim then, it almost certainly it "saved her life"...

This thing that a helmet must save you from everything and because it doesn't, shouldn't be the criteria whether to wear a helmet or not, mitigating some of the hurt that can happen when the old head bounces off the pavement is good enough for me...
