And I "get" that. I just think it's a shame to let one post be the end of a useful thread. In most threads, a single "bad" post will get removed, rather than cause the lockdown of the entire thread. (This is why the 41 continues to function, as far as I can tell.)

But helmet threads don't get the same treatment. And again, I understand why - and I think the mods around here generally do a very good job - but if I was king of the internet, I'd back down on the helmet thread scrutiny just a degree or two.

It is ironic that the emotional, irrational passion of the helmet proselytizers that polluted so many threads it caused the mods to quarantine such posts and rantings to a single thread is similar to the emotional, irrational passion of the vehicular cyclist proselytizers whose posts polluted so many threads that it caused the mods to quarantine their posts and rantings to a single thread.

Also ironic -- considering your post -- that the most recent thread lock was due to the emotional, irrational passion of a bare-head proselytizer who apparently just couldn't stand that there was a perfectly rational, informational, non-argumentative thread about helmets going on outside Helmet Thread.

Test done -- emotional, irrational bare-head proselytizers lose.

First thread, made it to 23 posts, day 3 or existence before a bare-header couldn't help but shut it down with helmet argumentative stuff known to either lock a thread or get such moved to helmet thread, at post #24 . There were a couple of pro-helmet statements and a couple of anti-helmet statements in among the previous comments before the one which got the thread locked.

Second thread, up to 36 posts and still going, day 5 of existence. Couple of muted pro-helmet posts, and one which should have been contentious enough for a lock or a move -- " I hide my due [sic] rags under a bicycle helmet which really does protect my noggin (and my brain) But if you don't think your brain is worth protecting.... you likely know best. " -- at post #32 .

So, contrary to opinion expressed by ILTB, above, looks like bare-head fanatacism turns out to be way more dooshy here in A&S than the pro-helmet variety.

I think most people "know" or at least suspect that the "What hat to wear" thread is a test, thus refrain from preaching to the quire... :p

It could have been a straight forward thread discussing regular hats, and not helmets. It should be possible to discuss head covers or without it becoming about helmets. One can even have head "protection" besides impact protection such as UV protection for the hair disadvantaged.

I didn't track the thread, but it seems to be staying put for now, which is good news.

On the other hand, even here on BF there few who'd bother preaching to a small packet of paper, although many would preach to those who sing in church.

Well, since rydabent, et al have been asleep at the switch,

My opinion perhaps wasn't expressed clearly enough. Nobody is more dooshy (i.e. irrationally positive that their own B.S. is validated because of their belief in it) than True Believers in Vehicular Cycling training, though helmet proselytizers work hard at catching up.

The previously identified poster doubled down on posting dooshness with a silly willy post gratuitously stirring up two hornets nests.
