A wide salmon
Today on a narrow street I encountered a pedicab (like these) that is riding on wrong way. The street was already very narrow with little room for me to ride between cars, and there came this salmon. Fortunately there were no passengers, who could get killed in an accident.

Which side did you end up passing him on?
Glad you're ok! I usually let salmons do their thing, but this sounds absolutely horrendously ludicrous! |
I guess all you can do is deal with it. Your intervention & confrontation might be misconstrued and taken the wrong way. Let the police handle it with a citation ?

He got to the right side, I was between him and cars.

Maybe he should have some other salmons as his passenger to enjoy the wrong way ride together :D

Is it possible to climb a light pole with bike in hand? I might have tried. <G>

I never let salmons get to the right. One of us is going to pass into traffic and it's not going to be me! It would have been a face off until he went around me. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onuV_l8M0vk By the way, that video of mine was featured in Episode 33 of "Silly Cyclists". It's #6 at 1:55. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtkX-h752aA |
I misread the thread title....I thought you met someone in the restroom with a wide stance.

The salmon are getting ready to finish their run, and the sea lions have been going into a feeding frenzy. When they do this, the dumb ass gulls start to harass them, hoping for bits of fish that get lost in the chaos. It works pretty well for everyone involved.
I'm not sure what any of this has to do with cycling, but bike people seem to really like fish. |

The salmon around here are usually harmless to others (which doesn't excuse them, it's still wrong). Most are people 'of color', either students or retirees, and they go about 6-10mph. Since there are so few cyclists daily OVERALL, they have exactly zero effect.
Our last (I'd say) DOZEN cyclists hit were riding properly -- except for the very last one; he was in the lane properly, but at 2AM with no lights. Hit & run, both of them drunk. The driver called police after getting home to report he "may have hit something in the road". He's a guest of the state now, and no one seems to know about the rider. |

Same here, even if it means I stop and stand to the right and the salmon goes around me to the left, try to enforce the USA traffic lane rules for what side even a salmon will have to take if they insist on being on my side of the road.
Is it bad form to ring or AirZound at wrong way oncoming riders? |

In hindsight, I'm wishing I'd called the police... mostly for the incident report, because that particular road is definitely a spawning ground. I was banged up pretty bad, expecting a full recovery, but who knows. Same goes for the bike, I guess. Also, I'm starting to think that the guy who hit me couldn't have been quite all there (drunk?) to have been riding like he was. He was very apologetic, and I have a soft spot a mile wide for other cyclists, but this was probably a case where the police should have been the ones to make the call on follow-up, not me. As nice as someone is post-crash, it's probably because they're hoping you won't call the police. I will try to be more cynical next time.
