I am starting to get a real negative opinion of the UK and how motorists treat cyclists there.

The moral of the above video is: next time you see Jackie Chan on his bike, let him through.

Any back story on this? Or follow up? Is there an unemployed bus driver sitting in jail somewhere?

Yup, bus driver got jailed for 17 months for grevious bodily harm. Cyclist fractured leg and wrist. There was a lead up incident where the cyclist accused bus driver of cutting him up and twanged the bus' wipers before riding off slowly in front of bus.

Yeah, the OP video was pretty funny. I'm guessing the guy was recording because that grey car was driving like a drunken fool.
This looks to be morning or afternoon "work" traffic. People drive the exact same route every single day, and the congestion is the same...every day. Same people even. But then there's always someone like 'Grey Car' that thinks they have a shortcut to all this traffic, and it involves driving like a total **** and trying to cut in at the very last moment. And then they get all pissy when you don't let them in. It looks like that's exactly what's going on with the grey car here.

The biker was awesome. Pretty wrong, but hilarious and awesome. I bet everyone but grey car was laughing at that. Not much grey car could do either.

Good video.

I've seen motorists using the bike lane or road shoulders to try to get past other motor traffic and then try to cut back in... most other drivers won't let them in, but there is always one motorist that will. The thing is the offending motorist is just being selfish to every other driver... they should be cut off.

The cyclist in that clip is a first class jerk. It absolutely could not have been any more obvious that the driver was trying to change lanes to the left; and still the cyclist passes on the left. Unbelievable. Must be his first day on a brand new bike because he obviously has no clue how to read traffic. Hope he learns to ride before he hurts himself.

No. I take that back. My apologies. On reviewing the clip it looks obviously staged. Got me the first time though.

Staged? Looks like the real deal to me. Cyclist does seem to have a pretty short fuse though - interesting words must have been exchanged. At speed, those maneuvers would have had me pissed. At a walking pace, what's the big deal?

It is easy for the viewer to see what is going on with the two cars ahead in plenty of time to avoid getting caught up in the situation. After this the cyclist enters the scene from behind the camera. He had to have been able to see the situation unfolding in front of him in plenty of time to avoid it if he had wanted. Instead he rides right into the middle of it. And then passes the driver who is obviously trying to change lanes to the left on the left and cuts him/her off. Besides that, who rides around with a video camera aiming out the front of their car? Besides cops. And if it were a cop why did he/she not flip on the lights and do something to stop the situation before it reached the level that it did? Staged.

Enough to keep these guys in business:
https://www.brickhousesecurity.com/ca...ce-system.html

And a scan through the number of reviews for dashcams listed on this page adds another hundred:
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...words=dash+cam

But a quick search suggests that regular non-LE people use them.
https://www.google.com/search?q=how+many+cars+dash+cams&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-USfficial&client=firefox-a

You know people, they'll find any reason to buy something fancy for their cars...

The only thing that would suggest to me that it may have been staged was how easily the cyclist slapped the mirror off. Anyone know if it really is that easy?

In eastern Europe and Asia, it's very common for people to use dash cameras because accidents happen fairly frequently.

I think it would be fairly easy and even painless if you were wearing gloves as he was. That being said the cyclist really overreacted here, traffic like that is stressful for everyone and I didn't really see anything too offensive there. Whether it was staged or not, it's really hard to tell. Could go either way.

Good question... I know that flapping foam rubber things in a car wash can do it... took my mirror right off years ago... Most mirrors are only held on by two or three screws and the mirrors are usually plastic with some small sheet metal backing at the attachment points... really not all that strong. There are more robust metal bits actually holding the mirror in place in the plastic shell, but overall, except for large truck mirrors, these things are not all that tough.

As for painless... even with gloves, I bet that was a good sting.

The only way a driver can prevent a pushy motorist from "cutting back in", is to stay mere inches form the car ahead, moving up any time there is the smallest gap. Sorry, but I will never drive like that. If someone wants to cut in that badly, they can do so in front of me easily. There will be no close calls or crashes, and I will still get to my destination stress and incident free. Isn't that the goal?
