Cops take "Brake Check" seriously in Beaverton
Wow. I'm impressed. A motorist brake-checked a cyclist, flipped him off (two ways), fled from the scene and then took a swing at the cyclist when the cyclist caught up to him. When this happened to me in Eugene, OR, the responding cop refused to even take a report in spite of the presence of several witnesses. In Beaverton, the assailant was arrested and charged. Perhaps the notorious "Good Doctor" has had some positive impact after all.

News stories vary relative to the reality of the incident, but if the cops (who presumably heard both sides) arrested the driver, there probably was compelling reason to do so. This will probably be the last news report, though.

I guess it's another case of the "big bad cyclist" being a "bully" to other road users.

Im all for cyclsits ruling the road, but technically its illegal to follow too closely. I mean you can use a ton of excuses for why you slammed on your brakes and they would all be legal, it could be hard to prove they brake checked on purpose.

Cycle Year Round
You do realize these are motorist suddenly swerving in front of the cyclist and stomping on the brakes. No tailgating involved. With insurance fraud using these same tactics, cops are getting wise to the "swoop and squat".

don't forget it's always illegal to run into the back of someone unless that someone is riding a bicycle. Then they need to investigate. I'm getting way too cynical. Stories like this give me hope.

And hopefully after that incident out in Ca with that "good" doctor (the one who can make a diagnoses without ever laying hands on a patient) police are taking them more serious when they also involve a bicycle.
