Woman attacks cyclist for holding up traffic

A friend send me this news article from a UK newspaper.

We see a woman seem to run from a car and then try to push a guy riding off his bike. There is a bit of a push and shove.

What we don't get to see is the lead up to this, nor how many cars are involved (ie one car isn't 'traffic').

I'm guessing that if we could see what happened earlier, we'd have a couple of options:
- the guy on the bike being oblivious to the car behind him and therefore 'holding up traffic'
- the car speeding along then honking/carrying on a bit so that the cyclist is thinking "keep honking, I can go slower" just to punish them for being 'rude'

Can't wait to see if the police catch up with either of these two.

The woman is already known to have made a false police report and given false contact information.

The cyclist seems to be experienced, as the woman pushes, cyclist just leans into her and stays up. The woman is lucky she was not on a bicycle, this guy would have easily ridden her into the ditch.

Then she goes and claims that he attacked her, and post's the video on YouTube. If she were here in Oregon, I wonder what she'll get for that... whipped with a wet spaghetti noodle? (vs. the fatal hit and run driver only getting 18 months in jail)

Funny thing is, she might have made a genuine report of assault. You see her pushing the bike to the side (which is an assault), but when the bike stops the guy straight arm pushes her and it seems to really set her off. I wouldn't be surprised that in her mind this is the unreasonable assault that the police complaint mentions (ignoring that she seems think she is not doing anything wrong by trying to push the guy out of the road in the first place and looks to be the initial agressor).

The fact that she's given incorrect details when phoning in the complaint is possibly coincidental.

If they find her she will be in trouble, even if the guy on the bike was holding up traffic (either due to stupidity or bloody-mindedness).

Why was he pedaling so slow? I'm wondering if he purposely was riding slow when she initially blew her horn for him to move over, so he got pissy and stayed in the lane and rode slower and slower the more she leaned on the horn? Surprised the guy didn't just punch her in the face and be done with it. He's probably an English gentleman. Horse and buggies from the Amish communities around here ride real slow too, so what? they have the same rights to be on the road as bicycles and cars do, so you just be patient and wait for traffic clear up enough to pass.

So really one has to wonder how is this attitude any different from what cyclists may encounter from irate motorists even when in the right lane of a 2 lane road?

I wonder how this woman would have reacted to a horse and wagon in the road.

Good 'ol video cam to the rescue:

"On this day a woman called Gloucestershire Police to report that she had been assaulted by a cyclist who had been holding up traffic."

Just gives less creditability to the SWSS.

It's in the Daily Fail*, so there's no telling what happened really.

A rubbish 'newspaper' that has a reputation for printing completely fabricated stories.

Looks like we'll have to see if other, more reputable, media sources pick up on this story.

Riding down the center of the lane slow enough that somebody could just walk up and hit him...

NOTHING SUSPICIOUS HERE.

Story seems sketchy at best, somebody was obviously there with a camera and posted it online, there shouldn't be any mystery about what happened.

Keep in mind that they drive in the left side in UK. So what looks like far beyond the middle of the road is in fact around 1-1,5 meters from the road edge.

From what I've read in other articles, the incident took place in January, and that the local PD are the ones that released the video in their hopes to ID the woman since other measures have failed to do so.

If the police were right there, and also physically stopped as shown in the video - then why wouldn't they simply get out and find out what was happening then? I don't think the police "releasing" the video necessarily means that they made the video.

From what I read, the video was made by an independent source, and was taken in by the PD as evidence.

Sounds like the woman motorist that became angry when I started writing down her vehicle license number, due to a couple of earlier repeat incidents.

And he is riding at a walking pace, perhaps even slower. Look at how slowly he is pedalling even. Granted he may simply not know how to operate a bicycle properly (trying to go up hill in too high of a gear maybe?).

He does speed up as soon as he notices somebody coming up though, but even then she being on foot easily catches up to him in a split second. The circumstances seem suspicious.

Regardless of the cyclist's actions, the PD's main focus seems intent on learning the woman's ID.

Odd all around. I wonder why the police are interested when neither party seems real interested in being ID'd. Perhaps there is more to the story.

One thing I've learned is that one's looks are fleeting, and a person's disposition tends to be life long. One tends to believe that objects in this woman's home need to be made of the unbreakable variety.
