Horsey 100 Ride vs. Police-escorted motorcycle ride
Yesterday some friends and I and about 1600 others rode around the Georgetown KY area on narrow rural roads in horse-farm country for a few hours. Parts of the course[es] had cyclists going in both directions on the same stretch of road, so we completely occupied the road on both sides.
It was amusing to see about 100 motorcyclists at one point who were "trapped" behind dozens of cyclists doing 10-20mph. The police escort didn't try to run us off the road like some drivers do. They couldn't pass the cyclists because other cyclists were occupying the oncoming lane, too.
Also, there was a knot of faster cyclists who were trapped behind the last police car. Normally they would have been able to pass the slower cyclists in the same lane. I'm not sure how long the motorcycle/car procession held up the bike ride. ;-)

They will work that out before next year. I've ridden the "Horsey" multiple times and its among my favorite weekend outings (when the sun is shinin'). Good accommodations, good organization, good food, beautiful bluegrass horse country, and enough hills to keep things interesting. Give them another chance.
Hey Wake, have you ridden the Hilly 100 in Morgan and Monroe counties around Bloomington, IN? Its my all time fav because of the challenge and the support provided to riders. Fried chicken and a good band playin rock or jazz make for a great lunch stop. Check it out if you are close to that area. Its in the fall, so you've got all summer to prepare for the hills.
