found on craigslist

i found a post about bike lanes on craigslist for the area i live in, and i thaught i would share it.

I have one way of making compromise about bicycles mixing with cars on the road. I of course hold the opinion that its just a safe measure for bicycles to stay off major streets. When you combine bicycles and cars your just asking for trouble. Several nice bike paths exist today that can take you great distances and away from car traffic. It just seems lately bicycles are popping up on streets and highways and the speed compared to a car just isnt there. I witnessed riders going 3 and 4 wide in a lane which is against the law and dangerous, I observe many red lights ran, crossing over lanes, going into oncoming traffic etc. If bicycles want to remain on the road and if the city of des moines is gonna spend tax payer dollars making special lanes on major streets than I feel bicycles should be licensed like a car. Then you can share the road, if you do something wrong you can be cited, and with the license fees collected it may pay for a major portion of recrational trails that have had many thousands of dollars spent by the tax payers and of course not everyone rides a bike. Its not fair for those that dont and those that do and dont use the bike paths they instead take there chances on the road. I understand with ragbrai its a special event and precautions are taken when the bikes are on the road. But to the casual motorist they are a nuiscance. Ive eperianced em angry if you are following, angry if you pass, and just not a good mix in traffic.

I can't even come up with a snarky response for this.

Not exactly a snarky remark but, "That guy is a prick" seems appropriate. LOL

Troll post. Don't bother responding.

His desires have no bearing on my rights.

no need to reply, some on else already did!

the problem isn't necessarily people on bikes, but the mind set of both motorists and bicyclists compared to one another. some people are just ********, no matter what they drive/ride, for example, the ****** bags who likes to swerve at people on bicycles just to try and make them crash.

would you like to cite me the municipal code stating that it is illegal to ride 3-4 abreast? people in cars run lights all the time, though 2 wrongs do not make a right, and only an idiot runs red lights. crossing over lanes is not illegal, how else do you turn left when a bike lane is clear to the right of the road?

"If bicycles want to remain on the road and if the city of des moines is gonna spend tax payer dollars making special lanes on major streets than I feel bicycles should be licensed like a car"- this statement here sir is pure dumbassery, people who ride bikes pay taxes to maintain the very same roads you don't want them on... i do agree with you on the registering of bikes being mandatory though.

you sir just don't like people on bikes because it's not a norm in our auto obsessed society and it makes you uncomfortable seeing someone enjoying their method of transportation.

Nice, last paragraph sums it up perfectly

I am amazed at how poor the writers sentence structure and spelling is.

unterhausen 06-15-12 01:09 PM

I want all those cars to get out of my way because I don't like to slow down

Bike paths don't pass by everyones job and you can thank the government for the astronomical cost of gas causing more bikes to hit the roads I do think the people riding 2 and 3 abreast are the ones giving us a bad name I've been behind these types who have no regard for the cars behind them and think they should be delt with

My sentiments exactly!!!! I don't like braking for slow drivers.....lol

I ride on the road all the time(except for club rides) and some drivers are as slow as molasses...lol

I didn't notice that. But then, once I saw that their rant was one of those 'roads are for cars, not bikes', I stopped reading.

But the rest of it is kind of hard to read.

Exactly. Just another person venting their displeasure about other people doing something they don't like. Click the "ignore" button.

Amazed and appalled are female terms. Like livid I would use the terms FUBAR, unintelligible or hilarious
And don't knock the spelling! It is a product of a government education.

The way I see it, they are paying for the privilege of sitting in a motor vehicle that they don't have to share with anybody and the only effort is to push on the brakes and accelerator pedals. (And yes, for some, the clutch pedal.) I won't go into how I pay the same amount they do to keep my car on the road, because some ppl don't own cars, and they have as much right to the road as car owners, if not more so, since they don't cause any damage.
This is actually a positive thing. At least this person is putting their thoughts out there where others can see it and can take them to task for it.

Female terms? I didn't realize that verbs were gendered...
