The root of distracted driving

One of the more "amusing" situations I ever saw was a driver trying to juggle coffee, cigarette, and cell phone, all while driving a small truck... he needed far more hands than he had, and that was why he actually wasn't a threat to me... he flat out could not drive... and ended up stopping in the middle of the road before making the left turn he was about to make (right into me). Why he thought he could drive with all those distractions is of course the real head slapper.
Near these places, you'll see through the windshield of many a moving vehicle; a driver with a cell phone being held in place to an ear via the shoulder, lighting a cigarette, and trying to rip the top off the Timmies, with a pinky finger agrip on the wheel.
Then one morning (oh, 1997 I believe) a particular driver in a small Toyota Tercel nailed the back of a school bus....actually the bonnet of the car went UNDER the back of the school bus, only a few feet, it was a slow(er) speed accident. Jeez, made me drop my cell phone in my coffee, it spilled all over my lap and ruined the car upholstery (I'm kidding).
Saw the whole thing, gave a statement to the police, never heard anything since.
I have used a cell phone whilst driving a handful of times, I do not claim innocence, but, it's a dumb idea in my opinion.

....and ATVs. The local ATV clubs here always show up on their ATVs and in camo clothing whenever a new walking or cycling trail is being planned or opened. They claim that the ATV industry, "is vital to the economy."
