Edit: The news article shows this guy to be a ass and bully. No objection to locking him up for several years.

Just goes to show you how unreasonable some people can be. Hard to believe.

Also, it sounds as though the commenting cyclists were feeling as though they had to justify their riding by adding the MS150 information. Too bad they felt they needed to do that. That gets into people judging them IMHO. I think you have the right to be there and no need to justify.

I'm not sure about that. A bicycle-related article shows up on the local news website, and hostile comments against the cyclist(s) will follow in no time. I'd think Seattle is better than that...

houston has a pretty large bike crowd, but its a mix of roadie ******** and fun loving bicyclists. but i guess thats pretty much anywhere. either way, the feelings against the bike scene here is pretty mixed. the biggest annoyance, at least in downtown area, is critical mass making people wait at lights for 20 minutes while 1500 bikers go by ignoring the red light cycle.

Of course. This case sounds a lot like the biker beat down case in NY. The driver was obviously in fear of his life when he ran the cyclist off the road.

probably was fearing for his life, too, when he purposefully waited in his driveway before backing out into a group of riders a few years ago.

You would be correct about that -- and I find it fascinating that motorists' rants seem to focus so much more on their own RIGHTS, and cyclists' RESPONSIBILITIES, exclusively. But then, there is, much like their BBQ, no stupid like Texas stupid.

Bicycle group rides are generally just plain rude to other road users. There are laws against motorists creating "rolling roadblocks" on multi-lane highways and I feel that bike group rides should be handled under the same law. One of our neighboring parishes (county) installed a law requiring more than 8 cyclists in a group to secure a parade permit before riding in the parish. There were all sorts of problems with New Orleans bike clubs clogging up those scenic 2-lane roads and highways in the country nearby. I rode with a club a few times before the law was enacted and I gotta say..."we" deserved it. I was too embarrassed to continue riding with those groups long before the permits were required.

After the permits were required similar confrontations (as the OP) between local farmers/residents and cyclists dropped to zero.

Blocking the road just because we can is bad form IMO. I can't blame the old geiser for WANTING to smash someones helmet in. Thankfully most folks won't go that far.

Just "Do unto others..." and "Love your neighbor..." covers lots of ground. Although, I have had some really irritating neighbors who put those good ideas to the acid test.

Yeah, it basically is a restating of the Golden Rule, but I think it puts the onus more on the individual. What can *I* do to get along with others? Several things have converged in my life recently that has me thinking along those lines more.
