Warrant issued for mom in alleged road rage beating

A man was recovering from a beating Saturday after a road rage attack involving a family.

Police say man riding a bike and a woman driving a minivan got into an altercation and then the woman drove off.

A few minutes later, the man says the woman and her two sons tracked him down and beat him with a pool cue and metal walking stick.

Police say warrants have been issued for the mother, Karen Blackwell, for contributing for the delinquency of a minor.

A 16-year-old boy is wanted for assault with a deadly weapon and his 15-year-old brother's case will be handled in juvenile court.

This is the complete story from the website. I can't believe what this woman and her kids did... Yet another reason why I do my best to be friendly when I'm out riding!

I'm curious as to what the "altercation" was.

Probably yet another stupid soccer mom wishing the annoying bicyclist would get his toy off the road and getting aggravated when he didn't.

Drivers can be such bastards sometimes.

Oh, and before you all start flaming me for taking the cyclist's side without "knowing the whole story," the cyclist is the one that got the crap beat out of him so I tend think the driver was the one with the mental stability problem.

The cyclist could have cut her off, smacked her car, and called her every four-letter word in the book, and it still wouldn't have justified a beating with a pool cue, and a metal cane.

Someone pisses you off, so you drive home, get you're two sons and drive around till you find the guy and then beat him up.

What kind of parent tells their kid to do this ****?

Maybe its because I cycle, but I get pretty rageful when I drive, especially here in LA... I'm talking violent... however, when I see a bicyclist... it actually calms my nerves (not to mention makes me jealous) - I then direct my rage towards other drivers not showing the rider any respect.

Let's turn it around just for perspective:

Not everyone who cycles is "on the side of the angels." I don't argue that the mom and her kids were excessive; maybe even stupid. I merely say that we don't know how much they were provoked. I've seen a video of a pedestrian who (for no apparent reason) picks up a 2x4 and breaks all the windows out of a car that just happens to be at a stop sign before the driver can escape. Does it justify getting your kids and coming back for some "catch-up?" No - but I can understand the impulse.

I don't give a damn how they were provoked. Unless the cyclist took a swing with a cane and a metal walking stick, nothing warranted what happened to him. Seeing as that situation is highly unlikely, I doubt anything the cyclist did would qualify their retaliation as rational.

Sorry bro. One guy got chased down and beaten. It wasn't even in the heat of the moment, which while not excusable is at least more understandable. This was a premeditated attack that involved the decision to go home, get some weapons, then hunt down the cyclist and beat him.

I don't need to know the whole story to know who's wrong in this case.

I'm really curious to know what he may have done to provoke such an attack. In any case, sometimes you just have to let things go. There are so many dangerously ******** drivers out there that if you pick a fight with every single one of them (even if you have a good reason), you will eventually be victimized.

When someone yells at you and damages your property, you do not have the right to strike them. Just for that and that alone. As far as I know this is the law. It certainly is the right thing to do. (not strike them).
It is however your right to be furious. And it sure is easy to want to hit someone smashing your property. But to go home get prepared and seek out the other person? Wrong.

These days this is on the news a lot, you would think both parties would be worried about the other having a gun!

Agreed - but everyone who rides is on my side, even though a lot of them sometimes piss me off!

If the cyclist had died from the beating, it would have been pre-meditated murder. According to the post, the perp went home, got helpers, who armed themselves and went looking for the victim and inflicted harm.

If the cyclist had caused any damage to the driver's property she had every right to call the cops.

Yet another example of why cyclists should avoid confrontation with motorists. Who knows what soccer moms will do after you diss them?

BTW, I have nothing against suv-driving soccer moms, in general. Some of them are the kindest people you'll ever meet.

Hopefully they all get time.
Then there will be three less zits on the a$$ of society.

On the other hand it's hard to become a soccer mom if you beat up every biker you see. No, this biker was somehow deemed especially deserving of some whupass by the crazy beyatch. Wrong place wrong time to be a tough guy I guess. It's a violent world.

He may not have done anything... on the other hand a group of people can work each other up with group think and escalate a situation.

The other day this lady was honking at me and yelling "move over" while I rode in the right tire track away from a bunch of parked cars... the guy in the next lane over decided to join her in the rant. Group think. One escalating thought can "enable" others. Also known as a mob scene.

If you still have your badge from when you were a crossing guard in grade school you could pin it to your wallet and flash it to the cagers that honk at you.
It would probably calm them down and there is nothing illegal about it.

vincenzosi, I agree 100%. All I need to hear is the word minivan and right away it is usually a dumb soccer mom or some dumb woman, the driver definatly had a mental problem.

Is it really a "dumb woman" or perhaps it is just being caged up with 4-5 kids yelling and screaming...

Also try to recall that you too were once a kid... and had a mom...

I don't know about you, but my mom never rounded up the kids for a good ole fun-filled family assault.
