I Parked In The Bike Lane Stickers
Anyone know where to find these, the red square stickers? The original site I see for them is old and doesn't respond to email. Looks like this was a project in NYC back in 2008. Just curious.

You could always make your own. Drop a pic of the sticker into a PowerPoint slide and print them out on mailing labels.

That is a good idea Dyna, tnx! I'm a little low tech here, no printer, never really needed one, no powerpoint prog here either...lol. Not sure if it would be kosher to use this guys idea if he is still doing it, but I could reword the sticker if need be and order stickers I suppose. Just curious if anybody sees these stickers around anymore or not?

I'm not sure I get this.
Is your purpose to educate drivers, or to annoy/punish them with a big sticker of the glass, which they need to scrape off.
If the former, just printing some kind of graphic, anlong with the message on a plain sheet of paper and putting it under the wiper would be a start. If you used the right color stock, and cut it the right size it would look like a parking ticket, and a driver might be relieved to see it was just a warning.
You could even call it a warning, show the fine, and remind the driver that next time he might not be this lucky.
OTOH- if you use an adhesive sticker, I suggest you check vandalism and malicious mischief laws in your state before you end up being the one who pays a fine.

I understand the annoyance at motorists who park in bike lanes. It's annoying in the sense that there are legal car parking places all over our streets, but some folks, either through ignorance or narcissism, freely park their cars in the bike lanes. I'm sure if they parked in a lane on the freeway or even on a surface street they would be towed immediately, but enforcement when it ONLY affects cyclists seems to be the lowest priority of most city police/parking departments that I have encountered.
That said, I disagree with putting a sticker on someone's car. First of all, even if you get that person to stop parking in the bike lane, that's only one person and you are far more likely to create feelings towards cyclists that aren't exactly warm and fuzzy. I just don't think such an action does much towards solving the problem, but perhaps I am wrong. Maybe I Like to Bike will help you design a nice little study so you can investigate the effectiveness of your plan. (I'm kidding, but it might be interesting in its own way.)
I'm dealing with the same issue locally. My neighborhood association worked with the city to remove parking on one side of a street that previously had dzbl's on both sides; now we only have one partial dzbl and the other side is a nice, six-foot bike lane. Unfortunately, people continue to park in the bike lane. Parking patrol won't come out until they are called, and only during business hours. The police are so indifferent that a car with out of state plates and long-expired registration tags remained parked in the bike lane continuously for twelve days last month (it was called in at least three times).
I'm currently working with/harassing the city traffic engineer to either put more thermoplastic bike emblems in the bike lane (they only have one at the beginning of each block) or add no parking signs. That should deal well with the ignorant parkers, but I'll still need some sort of enforcement for the narcissists. No one else has ever gotten our police to do any work, so that will be quite a challenge. We've tried the asking nicely approach. The public flogging is next up.

However, I believe that it's the city's responsibility to make it obvious that the bike lane is a no parking zone, so the process starts with proper signage, and/or painted curbs consistent with the norm in the area.

around here the towing companies would keep the bike lanes free. They have carte blanc to tow an illegally parked car that doesn't have anyone sitting in it. I have never seen a car parked in the bike lanes for long.

I don't get it. Is Eugene so affluent, or are taxes so low that they don't want or need revenue from parking enforcement? In any eastern city, parking revenue is a decent slice of the budget, and they try to glean every last buck.
However, I believe that it's the city's responsibility to make it obvious that the bike lane is a no parking zone, so the process starts with proper signage, and/or painted curbs consistent with the norm in the area.

Our traffic engineer effectively owns our roads. He absolutely hates signs of all sort. However, today he did let me know that he is considering placing the no parking signs. It would be a significant win to get these installed and would establish a precedent for the other locations where on-street parking is being removed. (Yes, we're having some success in removing parking.)

No stickers. The best you can do is report it and if you can, scotch tape to the windshield or place it under the wiper (which may violate local ordinances regarding posting of bills).

No, my purpose is to educate, not aggitate. I wasn't interested in putting them on cars anyway, not stickers at least. No, in my area I rarely run into cars in the bike lane, fortunately..... what I run into are large dumpsters, or snowmobile or motorcycle carriers blocking the lane. Actually what would be best would be something with a sticky-note type adhesive, which can be peeled right off. Or a realistic looking but bogus parking ticket. I did like the look of that red square sticker though....a simple, effective message. It must be really frustrating for folks in large cities with all the cars double parked, limosines, etc.
I did see one video on youtube that was hilarious...a group of folks in NYC in 2009 dressed up like clowns, called the Bike Lane Liberation Brigade....here is a video of their ride.

HAHA, report it?! Thats the best joke I've heard all day. I once tried to call 311 to report a semi that had blocked not only bike lane but the traffic lane as well. Took the NYPD over 5 hours to check it out. Before reporting it will do any good we need the cops to stop blocking the bike lanes themselves.

somehow this turned into a discussion that belonged in P&R so I deleted some posts. Let's not do that again, ok?
