My typically heavy trunk bag gets even heavier during the summer months when I toss in a 2L platypus bag to refill my 700 ml insulated bottles. At least it doesn't take up much space when its empty. I also carry pre-measured Gatorade crystals in 60ml Nalgene containers. I alternate between a bottle of Gatorade and bottle of plain water.

I just stop regularly and get more iced water, once in a while a diet refill. I'm out there on a Schwinn trying to keep a two hour a day commitment to just biking and getting out. It's not a speed issue and I eat when I get home like I normally would.

I cannot afford sports drinks normally anyhow...the grocery store did have Propel water on sale for less than the soda and I have enjoyed them some (mostly as water refill bottles).

I've found in hotter temps I'll go through over a liter of water per hour while riding. I use a 100oz Camelbak and I'll drain it on any ride over two hours. I've never been a fan of water bottles. They just don't hold enough.

Since I never end up leaving town or run out of places to get water, a 32 oz bottle lasts a while and I coordinate my rides along those stops.

I have 2 bottle cages on my bike with Camelbak podiums for a ride less than 30 miles, then for rides longer than that I usually bring a really small backpack which I also use for dirtbiking. It holds 2 extra water bottles which are plenty for my riding. This does add a lot of weight to my road bike, though.

yeah, it can be very dangerous. Eventually the sweating with lack of replenishment throws your electrolyte balance off and you could potentially go into cardiac arrhythmias or arrest. (worst case scenario)

Ouch! Not a good day for a ride in South Texas. 87F, heat index of 97F, with a dew point of 74F. Tropical. 10 miles into a planned 32 mile ride and I'm at the side of the road, light-headed with extreme nausea. Surprise, I was dehydrated, had to call for the support (wife) vehicle, and get into the broom wagon! Folks, watch your fluids, this could have been worse.

Hydrate after hot rides? Not a problem here for quite some time.

As long as I am hydrated before a ride (which should happen the night before) then a water bottle is sufficient with a refill stop about half way.
I like to have a bottle on hand for my 40min commute home, but don't usually drink any - it is there is case I get a flat.
