That is true.
We-I- have a 2006 Prius and I'm pretty sure I could use its relatively nimble quality to nail a cyclist as throughly as I could SMUSH one with our lumbering 98 suburban.
But I'm Catholic Irish(USA-E-IN))-so I could go to confession (and be absolved)-red neck would probably have to burn in hell
-but I'm a bit unsure on the theological limitations of protestantism so maybe not.

In any case-bad idea to yell at a driver.

Someone needs a schooling in grammar. Unfortunately nowadays, it seems to be the media doing a piss-poor job with proofreading.
Someone else needs to wash their mouth.

The whole thing about the 'words likely to incite...' is summed thusly:

Don't be a bonehead and aggravate others then come crying that you were wronged. This is idiocy and somebody hopefully learned something, or else there's undoubtedly another lesson.

Maturity isn't about becoming older.

What the truck driver was doing is called "rolling coal". It's a hot thing to do right now amongst idiot circles and is a form of backlash against environmentalism. Essentially these people feel entitled to do as they please with no regard to others' health and safety; they deem environmentalists and cyclists as liberal green hippies that want to control their lives big brother style - they are paranoid delusionals. They modify their trucks to produce more emissions than is permissible by the clean air act and purposefully blast smoke in the faces of environmental groups at rallies. For some reason, they have made the brilliant connection that a cyclist = environmentalist and so they purposefully harass them by passing very, very close and billowing smoke out their tailpipes as they pass. This is a real movement, look it up if you like - there are videos on Youtube. It's sad that their point of view has enough traction for a movement to have developed.

I would imagine that whether the cyclist is charged would depend on whether he uttered the obscenities before the motorist threw the bottle at him, or after.....

Just a guess....

I have had this happen to me. I picked up the bottle and threw it back. The motorist was charged and convicted of assault, and a $500.00 fine for littering.
