"I reckon we're pretty well-developed at this point."

Is NZ really pretty well-developed when it has a mandatory helmet law for all ages regardless of the damage it does to it's citizens?

Hopefully, you can use the link I provided to help overturn the NZ bad helmet law.

PS - why are you taking my post so personally, is that the attitude you always come into A&S with?

Latest helmet thread merged into this thread with one day forwarding.

Sure, but what's the point in pointing that out? How is it different than someone feeling the need to point out that seat belts aren't a magic force field? Helmets aren't a magic force field either. Nobody believes that a helmet will safe you if you get crushed by a semi. But that's not a reason not to wear one.

I don't get the need some people feel to point out the non-magic status of helmets every time someone says that they feel a helmet saved them a grave injury or worse.

And I don't understand the need some people feel to point out that they were wearing a helmet in an incident and there wasn't head trauma. If there is no head trauma, the helmet was useless. The false sense of security that styrofoam and some plastic has is unbelievable.

"If there is no head trauma, the helmet was useless!"

FWIW, the most recent "wearing a helmet" post (now moved to this thread) the OP had a moderate TBI. (Assuming it took longer than 5 minutes for the ambulance to arrive and put them into the ambulance.) In the unlikely event the OP was in the ambulance within 5 minutes of the crash, they had a mild TBI. Held for twelve hours for observation in the hospital.

But of course, if there is head trauma, the helmet was useless too. Right?

I am giving up. Wear a helmet, don't wear a helmet. Who really cares?

And That, is the right thought,

Take bets on the over/under in days until the next post from a certain regular poster on this thread who does care that other cyclists do not share his opinion on the subject of helmet wear or its safety value? Under 8 days used to be a safe bet.

He's kind of hot and cold now. Sometimes, he'll go weeks without checking in. I'll take the over. :)

Fresh chum in the waters, I take under.

FBinNY 11-01-16 05:38 PM

Let me know who's down for the under and what the purse is. I'll gladly jump in to make under the winners. All I ask is 15% commission for doing so.

I-Like-To-Bike 11-03-16 09:54 AM

I would have gone for the under but you can never bank on an old codger (i.e. older than me) to be reliable; perhaps our betting interest forgot where to post his weekly banal helmet safety "guidance" and reminders. Hope he doesn't forget where he left his helmet.

MMACH 5 11-03-16 10:04 AM

I may have spoken too soon. He appears to be lurking nearby. I'll have many paper beers ready to pay-up, if he shows up here.

TenSpeedV2 11-03-16 10:12 AM

Just curious to know how many of the active posters in this thread routinely wear a helmet.

I'm a full-time helmet nanny. If I'm on my bike, the helmet is on my head.

wphamilton 11-03-16 11:18 AM

Routinely wear one, sure. But this is a non-helmet week for me, every-day commutes. I'm enjoying the comfort and feeling of freedom, the cool wind in my hair.

350htrr 11-03-16 01:12 PM

I wear my helmet 99.99% of the time, (while riding my bike)... :p I do notice that when I don't wear one, I ride more cautiously. :roflmao2:

You don't matter to me.
Yes, that's my attitude.

Now, back to "assiduous". I'm still puzzled by the use of that word.

I guess I am not surprised with your attitude being from NZ. Sorry if the link was not helpful for you.

I don't pretend to play nice, as you do, if that's what you mean.
But then what you mean doesn't matter a whit to me.
Bye.
Have fun thinking about me.

No one will be thinking of you. We will just enjoy not having you in country for the time being.

Enjoy riding in your mandatory helmet law.

I owe you a six pack of paper suds or whichever brand of paper-mache paste you prefer!
