They're called proximity sensors. Yes they do detect the mass of cyclists.
They're not new technology been around of for well over a decade now. As the saying for technology goes, if you didn't know you probably couldn't afford them at the time they were newfangled.
Most cars, aside from econoboxes like a yaris, have them as an option you would pay extra for. Even teslas.
You can even install them after market.
I'm assuming you're trying to imply that the mazda mehcar6 has them standard now?

So what are these front sensors supposed to do? They can sense all they want, but unless they are connected to some kind of system that detects cyclists and pedestrians and takes action, they are useless to me when I ride my bike. For example, if they are tied in to an adaptive cruise control system they don't do me any good

I guess you could have made the point in the OP, but then clarity in heavily discounted in A&S.

I was thinking of getting a Mazda 6, or 3. Nice looking cars. But I ended up with a Prius. More room for a bicycle.

I remember a Mercedes Benz commercial from a few years ago that specifically touted this technology in regards to pedestrian / bicycle. But the example MB gave was specifically a pedestrian crossing directly in front of vehicle at 90 degrees - the classic setup of a child running into the street after a ball or similar. That's pretty simple stuff, actually.
There is no indication on how the system would work in the situation of, for example, a right-cross or left-cross where the vehicle is making the bad move in comparison to the other party (cyclist / pedestrian.)
I can't wait for autonomous vehicles.

So, While a driver may not be able to disable the auditory sensor warnings. They could ignore them.

I can't argue with this because I don't know how they work, but if was less overwhelming than the TCAS, and only sounded where there was truly an issue, I sincerely doubt drivers would ignore a warning alert. Then it would only be a matter of the driver being skilled enough to do something with the information which did not involve contact with a cyclist or pedestrian...

Which crash was this? TCAS would seem to be about the last thing you'd want to disable due to it being distracting. The only airline crashes I remember where TCAS was an issue were the one involving a Russian plane over Germany where TCAS gave one instruction and ATC directed the opposite and the crash in Brazil where the TCAS transponder was off but there was no indication the crew had turned it off intentionally and there had been some concerns about it turning off spontaneously.
