I love the bumper sticker I see now and then: Do you think you could drive better with that phone crammed up your @**?

It probably helps if you are a professional cage fighter to display ^^this one.
It helps to be a jerk looking for a fight with strangers to display rude in-your-face insults on your back.

Honking is to warn me of something. If they're passing normally it's not needed. You wouldn't honk when passing a car or motorcycle.

Yeah, but some people think we need a warning that they are there, as if we can't hear them coming. I had a woman in an SUV honk loudly and long as she passed me. It turned out to be someone I knew, so I got a chance to tell her that it doesn't help and it is a nerve-wracking distraction. She said she had no idea. People R dum!

Instead of those words on the T-shirt what about these more humble, less provocative words: "Hearing Impaired Cyclist" or "I am Deaf"?

Maybe mod it to be a turn signal? I agree with the other posts that posting a confrontational message is a bad idea.

This weekend, I took iron-on reflective tape and made arrows on my mittens, front and back. Now I have turn signals. If I repeatedly make a fist while holding my hand out, it might look like flashing.

Might challenge some motorists to see if that is true by blasting their high decibel horns to see if it gets any kind of reaction. If the T-shirt words were true, no harm no foul; if false, a lesson is taught to the cycling jerk.

Deafness comes in degrees and is rarely, if ever, absolute. A loud air horn could shock a deaf person and would be a very bad idea unless there were an emergency.

Many motorists (as well as non-motorists) do things that are very bad ideas.

In some places, having an LED sign that spells out messages is not legal -- last I checked they're not legal in California, at least on cars.

And perhaps not even as a nasty challenge - some drivers may feel it necessary to blast their horn to ensure the hearing impaired person become absolutely aware of their presence.

After all, if an accident was to happen (however unlikely), they may be - horrors of horrors - roundly criticized by the unbiased and exceedingly objective community at A&S.

You may have something there. Sorta like Americans overseas who when unable to communicate with locals in the native language compensate by shouting in English ever more loudly.
