Flip Bars
Flipped the Bars
Flipped The Handlebars • Left and Right
People have been flipping handlebars since the beginning of time ( in the 1970's ) and until the mountain bike straightened them out in 1986.
But this time, I undid the stem bolt and flipped the handlebars left and right , not just upside down .
There was another donor cycle with this one, which got k-balled to setup the brakes.
I call this bike type 219.

the project has progressed. Had to cut the corners off the Panniers to make the Fairing fit. But that's to be expected. No ones ever built stresmlined panniers before, or if they did, they didn't document their work very well.
seems 99.95% of streamlined bicycles are recumbents...
keep in mind, I keep many angles to 90 degree right angles . Lines are mostly vertical or horizontal , curves are beginning to show, but are Not compound curves. I hope to create a Baseline Design that other builders can modify or adapt.
this is a one-off human powered vehicle.
production methods may be fabrication from board stick (pictured),
fiberglass mold, 3D printing, or injection molding.
i am following the KISS rule. Therefore I had to leave off the heat shields that will enable the bike to re-enter the earths atmosphere . Yeah, you can be a genius and do that , but the people don't have the $177,000,000.38 to pay a rocket scientist.

It is looking good. With Corroplat you can pretty much only bend in one direction. That limitation doesn't seem to be stopping you or the recumbent users of Corroplat though. The major part of your body would be faired. I know that you mentioned this once before but a side benefit is that you stay a little warmer in the cold weather.

The Zip-Ties (Blue) have Not been cinched tight yet. A few drops of adhesive will go between the layers , but don't overdo it.
An old mop handle was most efficacious for suspending the top of the structure from the handlebar clamps. 3/4" rubber plug was inserted in the ends of the broomstick, and a screw with washer holds the Coroplast™.
I shoot these photos BEFORE the job is complete , because once it's closed in , you won't be able to see inside.

This is ingenious. The shapes look reasonably aerodynamic. The used of the material is clever. I like the fact that the foam cup for the water bottle will keep the water or whatever is in the bottle cool in warm weather. It looks like a vegetable draw for the windshield, and it fits perfect. Even integrating with the curve of the front. It has volume to store stuff. I am impressed.
I believe that one of your reasons for making fairings is to stay warmer in the winter. This and the early sunset keeps me off my bike in the winter.

The width of the upper " basket" was reduced from 12" to 11.5 inches to make the windshield fit more snugly. So far , the hardware has not been fully developed, the windshield is held in place by wedging a shop rag or work gloves between it and the wall.
i have been bulging a new design every two years, and lately every year, I may step it up and have a model 319 before years end.
If I can't find a manufacturer to produce fairings to our designs , I will create a design people can build themselves in a home shop setting.
i have tried different approaches . Pure aerodynamics, human powered vehicle, electric moped (& accessories), ...
lets look at it as a bicycle basket designed and produced to the same Design Parameters as a motorcycle fairing.

Or I could produce a set of Coroplast Panniers with little or no regard for aerodynamics . Or I could leave that for someone else to do.
And then there is the whole issue of Lights. This Model 219 has No Lights, and I intend to leave it that way .Daytime only. And " this protective shield may not be capable of absorbing impacts greater that 5MPH ",

Just an idea, but your brake cables look a trifle in the way. I've flipped my bars for doing artistic cycling tricks, and I use a little bit of a different braking leaver that has the cord running with the bars and not away from them. Also, note that they are much sleeker. I bought them for $5 at my bike coop:
Only the left (front) break is actually used; the right brake was installed to stop the grip from slipping off. Seems the left brake could use another cable tie on the bend of the bar to contain the cable better.
I love these brakes—I can even use them very easily when sitting backwards on my handlebars and riding! So fun!

Okay, this project is finished, I don’t plan to add 12 volt LED lights . I’ve been advertising this bike locally for $85.00, considering the donor bike is a $5.00 garage sale bike , I added new tires ( dry rot) , the coroplast was $20.00 a sheet, another $20.00 worth of hit melt glue and zip ties.

If only you could mount up the front Fairing to the triangle(frame).You could then put doors (sides) and really make that ride slippery like a velocar.
