is this the proper forum for it, other then electric bikes. i don't see a fitting one.

I was wondering about what the most powerful i can get/fit would be.

I have a friend who just bought a motor for hsi bike. it is 70ccs and he can go 40+ mph on his bike.

Another friend just ordered a different one. this one is 4 cycle so he can use straight gas

I think it depends on your jurisdiction. There's different classifications for motorised bikes/mopeds/scooters.

This seems to be the applicable section for PA:

"Motorized pedacycle - A motor-driven cycle equipped with operable pedals, a motor rated no more than 1.5 brake horsepower, a cylinder capacity not exceeding 50 cubic centimeters, and automatic transmission, and a maximum design speed of no more than 25 miles per hour."

My brief look at PA's regulations suggests that motorised bicycles would not be allowed to be driven on public roads.

So, you might want to look into the regulations yourself a bit more closely. At least, if you plan on riding on anything other than private property.

PA's law is that anything higher then 48cc is not street legal. my friends know this, but they don't care. plus they are putting 48cc plates on the motors This does not concern me as I will be riding this bike on private property. i am trying to see what the most compact and fastest motor i can get made for a bike is.

Oh sorry! Yeah, I can't answer anything to do with motors. I'll bet wethepeople can answer your question though, and there's probably other people on here who can give you a better answer than I can.

The "e-bike" forum here is lame. E-bikes have the same problems that e-cars do--relatively high costs and (even with expensive batteries) very limited ranges.

In terms of power output the Chinese 80-cc chain-drive kits are probably highest, at something between 3 and 4 HP, if they have a tuned pipe. Most other setups with Tanaka or Whizzer engines put out right around 2 HP.

If you want to use it on the street, different states have different terms, definitions and laws, and you should not make any assumptions. A bicycle with a motor does not always equate to a moped.

electric bicycles tend to do better than gas bicycles in terms of being quiet, environmentally friendly, and being street-legal without registration/insurance.

different motors for different goals.

Where I live anything over 50cc needs a Motorcycle Licence, insurance etc...
