which shox to get for this project
hello everyone, im from Vancouver BC and i'm trying to build a custom motorcycle. i know it has nothing to do with bicycles but i need everyones expertience on this one. im building a custom front end for my motorcycle which utilizes a bike shock. my question is, which shocks do you guys suggest would work well for this design
here's a few pictures of what im planning on doing. http://codewheeney.smugmug.com/photo...2_7jCJU-XL.jpg http://www.cookcustomchoppers.com/images/CC3.jpg http://www.clubchopper.com/photopost...0/DSCF0864.jpg i was told to get Fox DHX 5.0, would that work? i need a shocks that is short, good rebound, tunable, bottom out protection and reliable |
it seems to me that the weight of a motorcycle would need a beefier, maybe custom, springer

I have both motorcycle & bicycle experience.
No way a bike front fork or component will work. The weight differential between the two is way too much. These customs had the front fork & suspension designed and built from scratch. I like the Kustom Katoom, btw. |

Not our bag.
Basically you need to know what the travel is and at what load it bottoms out at. That's put simply from someone who doesn't doesn't have one suspension item on their bike. But anyways, the mountain bike section will know much more about shocks. |

i think you've read my question all wrong.

That Fox shock would probably do it. Or most DH rated shocks that allow you to run a really heavy spring. Is this for show, or does it need to perform reasonably well?
|
Could you use a pair and mount them either side instead of one in the center? Might make it easier to get good performance and not overload the shocks and springs.
|
Also check out the Curnutt. A DH shock should be fine for light street use.

Go with the best you can find. Losing a front end at speed isn't worth saving a few dollars.
Personally, I'd go with an old brit. girder instead. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...P1000125-1.jpg |
no idea, but post pics when you do it please. it'll be ok. duct tape a pedal to it and claim it's a alt bike.
