Fund raising ideas that center around bikes in some way....

I am brain storming ideas for putting together a fund raising event for a bike coop and was wondering what things those of you in BF land may have seen somewhere or had an idea about that seemed cool. I am putting together a long list of ideas and then will be talking with some other local folks to see which ones show the most potential.

After that the discussion will shift to the where and when --

Bike build off

Finished bikes can be raffled or auctioned off. If at least some of the building is done where people can watch sell tickets or ask for thank you donations. One could also have other events going on at the same time.

Don't think the airport would go for a bike ride -- but it gets me thinking about other places for a ride where bikes normally can not go. I was kicking around the idea of a build off contest but was trying to figure out the configuration that would raise the most money and be the most fun.

My overall idea is putting a bunch of things together into one event. I have also been thinking about some artistic ideas -- maybe music played on/with bike parts -- bike painting -- sculptures made of bikes --- a bike toss (for distance) -- ring toss (16" rim through the 27" rim hole --

You could do a Poker Run.

Or a bicycle gymkhana.

I used to go for a nice ride every year in VA. It was a fully hosted ride that was put on by the local Volunteer Fire Department. I don't remember what it cost but it wasn't really cheap. They started it at a campground and riders could stay the night there for free. It was a two day event. There were rides and other things for all kinds of riders. There was a little off-road for Mt. Bikers, there were 100 miles loops for hard-core touring riders, they had short fun rides for families. They had stands with food and other refreshments. It would take lots of organizing and preferably participation from the local Police but the payoff could be huge.
