Tour Exchange?

Everyone knows you can't beat local knowledge. I would be willing to tour with anyone coming to my neck of the woods (Southern Ontario, Canada) and share the best routes.

I'm sure other tourers feel the same way.

Is there a site or app that matches up a visiting bike tourer with a host? I checked crazyguyonabike and I don't see anything dedicated to that.

If such a thing does not exist, I would be willing to try to put it together. I have some tech skills and free time. Not sure what platform to develop on though.

I think the closest thing would be to find a warm showers host(look into that if you aren’t familiar) that would be willing to take a long weekend and do a short(in touring terms) ride with you through their area. That would be pretty cool. I like your idea.

I'm familiar with warm showers. What I'm thinking is not so much offering accommodation but rather a local trip leader.

That is one of the things warmshowers does. Among many others. You offer the services that you are comfortable with offering.

Awesome. Didn't know. I thought it was just for offers for a place to sleep.

I do doubt you’ll find people listing that as an offering, but send out some emails with enough notice and maybe someone would be up for the ride and show you the area a bit. I would if I had the time and someone was traveling through my area.

Nothing says you can't use it that way. While I don't recall seeing any offering local knowledge only, I am pretty certain I have seen SAG only. Just people that want to help out in the event a cyclists gets in trouble.

And I have used warmshowers (sending an email) when I did not want to ride alon. I have also used it for local knowledge. Actually I use it for that purpose a lot. People are usually very helpful.
