contract woes

Alright
In my contract for this season, I can either have XTR everything (with dual control levers) or full SRAM. Sram would be Xo triggers& black box rear, x-gen front, avid juicy 7 carbon, truvativ stylo team carbon, and rock shox sid world cup, or reba world cup. with the shimano, I must use a Fox

So what is your question/dilemna???

I take it that you really want the Fox fork and the SRAM drivetrain right??? Because if you want the Shimano drivetrain and the RockShox fork you must be a crazy person.

read again: with the sram he needs to use other sram owned stuff: truvativ, avid, rockshock

with shimano, he gets full xtr, brake set, drivetrain, cranks, and a fox fork..

personally, i have no idea which you should use. but if you are getting on a contract, it seems strange that you need to ask because personally you should know your own preferences (assuming that you have certain skills/experience enough to be able to get on a contract). asking outside opinion will just get you varied responses. why not just go with whatever you feel is best for you, or whatever you dig the most. after all, you are getting the best of the best either way, i think at such a stage of high end stuff it is mostly personal preference, or it should be anyway, common sense wise..

Been out a year or so, and so much happens with tech, most is useless though. Just wondering how things have changed.

Sponsored riders do not have to ride all of the companies products, it's mix and match.

Shifting

SRAM
Thumb/Thumb shifters. They are VERY well regarded as the most precise shifting option out there. But some people don't care for thumb/thumb shifting. SRAM's 1:1 cable actuation is more tolerant to slop and cable stretch. It's regarded as a "set it and forget it" system.

Shimano
XTR is great shifting. Dual control is well regarded by many. It is positively loathed by many. You have to find your own comfort level. Rapid rise is probably even more controversial. It helps STI shifting, but it eliminates the ability to do multiple simultaneous downshifts. Most pros are good enough that they don't need this option. Amateurs and semi-pros my find a strong desire to bail into much lower gear useful.

Braking
SRAM-Avid
The Juicy 7 is widely regarded as one of the top brakes out there. This years Juicy got even better with some titanium components and a carbon lever.

Shimano
Shimano is good stuff. But in braking, they rarely rise to the level of Avid, Hayes and Hope.

Cranks
SRAM-Trutativ
Trutativ's top of the line stuff has a two piece design and external bearing shells. Though their lower end stuff is ISIS and prone to failure.

Shimano
Same external bearings. Though, Shimano's lower end stuff uses Octalink which is more durable.

Forks
SRAM-RockShox
The original bike suspension company has been derided in recent years for it's middling mediocre products. But they've really come up to snuff recently.

Fox
However, Fox is still the king of bicycle XC suspension.

Overall
If you like the XTR shifters and you're riding in drier climates, the Shimano/Fox combo might be the best for you. If you want the ABSOLUTE BEST shifting, you would go with SRAM and take those excellent REBA forks instead of the BEST Fox forks.

If you have only been out for a year then honestly things have not changed all that much. What components did you prefer before and why?

First time I've ever heard a sponsored rider need to ask advice on components. Regardless, congrats. Would be very cool to be your age (13 or 14) and be sponsored. Wish I would have gotten into it at that young of an age. Especially cool to be sponsored when you haven't been into it since you were 12.

Also, did you manage to get on a race team? Noticed this post where you were looking for one.
