Schooltime

I guess school is officially back in session. I could tell by the increase in traffic volume this morning. It was as if traffic volume doubled.

Makes me think a little. When I was a kid, mom and dad absolutely refused to drive me to school. I had to either walk or ride my bike. I realize it's not the same around Atlanta, at least in many places, because kids can't do that as safely as I could. But who is designing our communities this way?

(Well, the good side of this is that my average commute time was much better, comparatively speaking, because motorists were slower. In fact, they saw me passing them quite often.)

You're right Pete. School has started!!

This was day four and the traffic was awful!! I was hoping traffic would get better by now.

Normally I'm behind 3 or 4 cars when leaving my neighborhood and turning onto a "major" road. Today I was behind 15 cars. And every car had one person in it.

It's a good thing I started commuting during the summer when school was out. If I started commuting this week with all this traffic, I think I would give up on the idea after one day.

School isn't in yet here--3 more weeks! Yeah, I remember I had to either walk or walk to school My parents never dropped me off. However, times have changed. Everyone seems to be more cautious about letting their kids go to school on their own. I don't blame 'em.

Lucky for me I am homeschooled, so I can get plenty of riding time in. Except that my bike is incapasitated at the moment because of my brake problem.
