Another bike thread: Cannondale vs. Trek
So I'm looking at the Trek 2.1 from the LBS ($1200)
But I found this on CL. https://orlando.craigslist.org/bik/1068440433.html
Does anyone know anything about this frame?
Which would you buy?

I get nervous whenever I see a repainted frame but a repainted aluminum frame really gives me the Willies. I would buy the 2.1 even though I'm not a big Trek fan.

That Cannondale bike is beautiful, but I would get the Trek 2.1, especially if it's all 105 (I think it is). The 2008 Shimano 105 drivetrain is much better than the 2005 Shimano drivetrain, and you might be able to get Ultegra cranks for very cheap.

The bike is definitely a Cannondale, but I don't think the year is right. At least not for that fork. The fork design changed in '05, at least aesthetically. That fork is from an '04 model. The bike may have been purchased in '05, but the fork is definitely from an older production period. And if you look at the pictures, that is not a Shimano group from '05. The components have obviously been upgraded. I would 1) make sure you ride a 58cm, otherwise this is the end of the thread and 2) if you do fit, be very skeptical in your approach to the purchase. Search through https://www.vintagecannondale.com/, or have the owner give you the serial number off the bottom bracket and check on the year, make and original spec on that bike. Lastly, if you can't physically go to the guy and look at the bike, DON'T BUY FROM CRAIGSLIST. <-disclaimer: My opinion only.

The Trek 2.1 is a 9 speed with full Tiagra + 105 RD. The Cannondale therefore looks better on paper. However, you don't know if there's anything wrong with the frame. You only have the sellers word. Also, the bike might stolen. Who knows? If you can't meet the seller in person, test ride the bike, and veryfiy the serial number, then don't bother with it.
