Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

3 years from now....

I wonder what the worthy successor to the Caad9 will be (assuming the Caad9 will cease to exist in 3 years).... I mean which bike will warrant 3-4 new threads a week with photos and reviews of how great this new bike is.
It's a hard one to predict, but my guess will be a Giant TCR or some future incarnation of the bike.

What I know (believe) is this:
it will be carbon
it will be a race geometry
it will offer great value

Any predictions?

The whole point of the greatness of the CAAD9 is that it is NOT carbon, but has a great ride.

therefor i say you are wrong

My point is the bike, in all probability won't be around in 3 years, or even next year.
Much to my dismay because I really do love this bike!

So assuming I'm right, what will replace the Caad9 as the next great bike?

You're starting with a big assumption.

Maybe....Maybe not. As long as UCI maintains the double diamond and current wieght limit, Alu and Ti remain viable frame materials.

This aspect alone, makes it impossible for any of us to accurately predict what the next "it" bike may be. As, none of us have the ability to recognize which company may choose to price their product particularly attracively in three years time.

Bike manufacturing is reasonalby easy from an engineering stand point. It's up to the accountant and marketing folks to decide how they're going to price the product to attract a certain market segment. Tell me who's going to go after that segment in three years time and I'll pick their current top of the line frame as your successor to the Caad9.

Giant TCR. The series keeps on getting better every year.

(hopefully) Cannondale will always build an aluminum racing frame.

+1
I don't think we'll be seeing anything newer than the 9 for a long time, though.
