Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

SRAM Rival levers with Shimano Derailleurs?

Curious, anyone tried to mix the SRAM levers with Shimano derailleurs?

I find the Shimano Ultegra levers annoying...

they're not exactly mix'n'match like that. there are adapters that supposedly get around the differences in cable pull but i've never seen one in person.

It won't work. The cable pull for SRAM levers is 1:1, which means that the lever pulls the same about of cable per gear change. Shimano is something like 1:0.96 I don't remember exactly. In the end though, the Shimano lever pulls a different amount of cable depending on which gear you're in.

The FD is compatible. The RD is not but as doomkin said there is a shiftmate adapter. From what I've heard it doesn't work very well. If you are buying new levers just pay the $70 or whatever it is and get a Rival RD.
