Ooops, I didn't think before I ordered

I recently got this in the mail:

After removing the old bar I realized I had made a big mistake. I have an old quill stem - similar to this:

So you see the problem - how the hell do you get the H-Bar onto that stem? I don't think you do.

Ooops

Maybe I'll return it and try out the nashbar trekking handlebar.

You probably will have a very difficult time getting that stem around a trekking handlebar, too, because of the curved parts, especially if the top of your stem is wider than 1/2". That's the widest size I could get around my trekking bars (using oil to lube) and those were my brake levers. I have a quill stem, too, but mine is the type where the whole front of it unscrews and comes off. Otherwise there is no way I'd have been able to use the trekking bars.

Maybe it's time to invest in a new quill stem?

Delta makes a riser quill stem with a two-bolt handlebar mounting plate instead of a one-piece clamp. Works awesome, just remember to tighten the bolts equally in increments. IIRC, there were non-riser versions of same.

Any money spent on a bicycle is good money.

At least that's my theory, anyway.

The Titec H-bar and the Nashbar Trekking bar with both radically alter your cockpit dimensions so unless the existing bar/stem combo wasn't a good fit you'll most likely need a new shorter stem.

Quick newbie question, how do you get the shift levers and brake levers on the H-bar?
