Arkel "Commuter" - inexpensive clone ??

I've been researching for a pannier for commuting and have come to the conclusion that the Arkel Commuter is what I like. Yes - I guess I have good taste! The only problem is that it is way out of my budget. $160 is just to rich for me at this point. What I like is the size, the easy on/off the rack, flap that covers hooks and especially the shoulder strap.
Does anyone know of a pannier with ~1500 cu in that would have similar features for ALOT less?? My budget is more like $40-$50

not really a knock off, but it may fit your needs

of course, personally, I feel you get what you pay for and I wouldn't trade my Arkel Utility Basket for anything.

Yup, I've regretted some buying decisions (usually ones I tried to save money on). I haven't ever regretted the Arkel Commuter.

+1 the Arkel Commuter is worth it. I know that doesn't help you much in your current situation other than to assure you that if you can come up with the extra Benjamin, you wont regret it.

Could be made to work
https://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product...877_-1___15004

Haven't seen one in person but if it is the same quality as my MTX it should be good.

Or this bag
https://www.rei.com/product/780448 and then get the laptop sleeve listed below.
This set will also work and I have the older version that I am very happy with. Again you need the $10 sleeve. https://www.rei.com/product/780451

This actually cost more but pretty cool.

Topeak MTX system is great. However, I'm less of a fan of their panniers though (at least not for something as heavy as a computer... had one drop off my Topeak Tourist rack). Note, this is, obviously, NOT a pannier but a briefcase type thing that attaches with the MTX system. If this were available when I purchased my Commuter, I likely would have bought this + used the Topeak Dry Panniers for clothes.

I KNEW I had seen a decent alternate from Novara. I just couldn't find it. The organization on that is better than the Commuter (though less total capacity), and the Kickflix is nearly as good as the Arkel Locking Cam. If the laptop pod is big enough this is a worthy budget contender.

+1 again. I don't have the commuter but I have a few other Arkel bags, and both the quality of their products and the quality of their service make the Arkel products a bargain in the long run.
