Has this ever happened to you?
I'm on my way home this afternoon and my commute is pretty flat except for this one highway overpass. As I start my descent I noticed another cyclist going against traffic climbing the bridge towards me. He was almost halfway up at this point. This was nothing unusual since I encounter other commuters going against traffic everyday. I usually just give them a wide berth by leaving the bike lane as I pass them.
So, I quickly looked behind me to make sure that a car will not cream me as I merge into the lane. It was clear. But as I looked forward, while at the same time merging into the lane, I was surprised to see the other cylist, standing on his pedal strokes, on a collision course! He also merged into the lane towards incoming traffic! WTF! After a moment of hesitation to see if he'll realize a potentialy deadly mistake on his part, he didn't, I quickly swerved back into the bike lane and passed safely while at the same time hoping that a car was not cresting the bridge from the opposite direction. Luckily for him there wasn't.
I've been commuting for over 2 years now and this is the very first time I've seen a cyclist take a lane while going against traffic. I mean, sure, you can "safely" do it when the road is flat and you can see half a mile in front of you. But not while going up a bridge when you have no idea if there are any cars coming the other way. This has to rank way up there for the Darwin awards.

Darwin winner for sure, but no, I've never encountered that particular stupidity. I would have had to throw in in a, "Stupid move", "Idiot!" or some such even if it'll never do any good.

Hold your lane position and let the wrong way cyclist decide if they want to move into the lane, off the road or stop. Don't do the chicken dance on the roadway with idiots like this.

I said that once, to a couple of nice Mormon boys who I had to dodge by going out in the car lane. Then I said, "I'm worried about you guys. This is dangerous." They had no clue what I meant. They responded with, 'Yeah, you need to be careful."

I generally say nothing under these circumstances. A)it won't matter as they think they know what they are doing B)these are usually adults so who am I to play nanny over them and C)you let nature take it's course. Sometimes the herd has to be thinned.

I would normally utter out "What The F***!" to these kind of stupidity. But I've been trying to control my anger lately and decided not to.

Not exactly that, but similar. Just this week I was heading across the 90th St bridge in Redmond and a guy was riding the wrong way up the bike lane, heading straight for me.
I held my line and forced him to make a choice: Hop the curb to the sidewalk, dodge traffic, or hit me. Thankfully, traffic was light so he had room to go around. I didn't say a word, because I could see the earphone wires dangling. It wouldn't have done any good if I said anything.
