"You got here the same time I did..."

".... and didn't burn a bit of carbon."

So said an auto commuter as he walked by me this morning on his way from the parking garage to his office.

A bicycle ridden by the O.P.

What does time of arrival have to do with anything?
Do they think that because you ride a bike you're too stupid to leave the house early enough to get to work on time?

I'm pretty sure they were giving the OP a compliment.

I read the brief OP post as the auto commuter had seen the bike commuter some place early in the commute and was surprised the bike commuter was just as fast......but I could be reading too much into the post...... time to cut the coffee and go to mint tea

Not entirely true, but negligible in comparison.

I got a similar comment last Saturday night. Was leaving a concert with two couples who arrived in different cages. Both offered me a ride due to the rain, I refused both, I wanted to ride, rain or not. The house we were retiring to wasn't far away. I ended up beating one cage by about 5 minutes due to them stopping for beer and smokes. Was only about 3-5 minutes behind the other car.

The driver did not mean it literally -- he didn't know where I started from or when I launched.

His point was ... we both got to work at the same time, him driving and burning fuel, me riding and burning calories.

It was meant as a compliment and a meaningful observation.

I told him, "Thanks."

Damn it, Slim, we're trying to cast the cager as a malicious idiot here, and you're not helping at all!

Technically speaking of course, he burned far more calories than you did.

Uh, no. The amount of energy used to move the much heavier automobile is far greater than the amount of energy used to move the cyclist and his steel steed.

Calories verses calories... or calories verses kilo calories.

The laws of physics dictate that it will take more energy to move an object of more mass the same distance as an object of less mass.

Huh? You two said the same thing. "He" = car driver; "you" = biker.

So therefore it will require more calories to move the car than the biker.
