Ok Tool guru's, looking for something off the wall here..

Looking for a set of metric allens that are for security bolts - the socket heads that have the pin in the dead center to resist a standard wrench. Checked all the usual vendors and not seeing them.

#$%@ Niterider. Trying to get 3 battery packs rebuilt at Batteries + and they have nothing to remove the screws out of the packs.. short of a drill.

Thanks!

check autozone or napa auto parts stores. They may have them. I bought a set of high security torx bits from them. Sometimes you can sub a torx bit for an allen bit, but not always.

McMaster-Carr or MSC

https://www.mcmaster.com
https://www.mscdirect.com

For the most part you can get overnight shipping inexpensively from either one.

Harbor Freight, Ace Hardware, or here: https://www.amazon.com/SE-pc-Security...4518196&sr=8-1

Edit: They're usually in the bargain tool bins

I'd prolly just take a dremel to an allen key after killing its temper on the stove.

They are called tamper - proof torx. Any half decent automotive tool hand store should carry them. If not, stop by a local garage & politely ask if they have a minute to remove them for you. When you get the batteries taken care of, stop back over at the shop & have them reinstall. Hand the guy a few bucks & tell him the "next round is on me".

Clydosaur, there's actually both Allen and Torx in security types. So unless you're sure Niterider uses security Torx screws then it could be either depending on the shape of the driving faces.

CCrew, unless you want to re-use the existing security screws you can often remove the little ones set in plastic like these would be with a small flat blade that you jam into the recess between the pin and outer faces. Either one that happens to fit or a sacrificial bit intended for magnetic drivers slightly and carefully ground to fit. Then just replace them with something more normal.

I have a 2008 Craftsman catalog with tamperproof Torx sockets in it. I'd try Pep Boys,Autozone Etc. I've always wondered about those toilet partitions, with tamper-proof hardware. Like who'd want to carry them off? Try Plata Pius or Bianchigirl, they're both professional mechanics. Chris

Bored people, waiting for something to happen, who know no one is watching them. Toilet stall vandalism is very common.

I've got this kit: https://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...=1294593505836, which is pretty handy, as it's got a bunch of security bits in a rubber holder that hits on the screwdriver's shaft.
