Who is Laurent Fortin and why is that name on my PX-10?
Picked up most of a 1970 PX-10 that had been repainted a sort of british racing green.
Peugeot is hand painted (done well) on the fork blades and on the downtube appears to be the name "LAURENT FORTIN" . I could have one or two of those letters wrong, its very hard to see and was probably painted on in the 70s. The paint lost its luster over the years but appears to be a fairly good job (aside from a little paint that ended up on the headset). Same with the scripting of the names as well as something I cannot make out on the seattube, maybe "CANADA"?
I can get some pictures but it took me a lot of inspection with different lights just to make out what I could.
Any help is greatly appreciated. As always.

I know a cat named Larry Fortin, and he's a real tool. Maybe he built your bike? Hope this helps.

I can obviously find a dozen different people named Laurent Fortin, but I am curious if there is a prominent Laurent in the cycling scene from the 70s other than Fignon.

If no one has any ideas thats fine.
I just wanted to make sure i wasnt going to deface a famous racers bike by repainting it white.
Ridiculously good luck collecting parts for it so far.
I am excite.

No, this was someone locals abandoned project. Came with a few original choice parts too.
Plus if this hit eBay I wouldnt have been able to afford it.

In my experience, with research questions like this ("was there a racer named Laurent Fortin in the early 70's?) information trickles in slowly, often long after you first ask the question. So... though I have no idea who Laurent Fortin is/was, I would leave his name and the other hand painted markings alone. It's part of the bike's past, and one day you may be able to fill in a little history around that.

Well put, Rhm.
I suppose as long as the paint isn't detrimental to the tubing it isnt hurting anything.
Plus I wasn't looking to spend $50 on decals for a bike that I will likely sell pretty soon.
I am a democratic person, so if any one else thinks leaving it green is a good choice I will abide by the C&V will.
Edit: Plus the name is very French

Good to know. I do live in the furthest reaches of French occupation in America, but that well before Peugeot was even a company.
It is certainly not trying to look made in Canada.
the riveted triangular headbadge that it should have dates it to 64-70. the deraillieur it came with was stamped 70 so I think that is a fair assumption to the date produced.
in the early 80s when production moved to Canada, not all peugeots were Canadian produced, I had a UO-09 from 81 that was still made in France.
I'm sure there are a few members who know just which models were Can. made, but it wouldnt surprise me if the PX-10s were still France based.

It was definitely painted, the similarities in the A's and R's is so close that somebody (probably Laurent) spent time putting the text on there.
Why someone would paint it green and then still label the forks as peugeot makes me wonder if it was a shop team.
I'm not discounting that it could have been painted after the fact either. I don't , however, think someone in the 80s picked up a 1970 PX-10 for his team bike.

A database with (virtually) al pro racers and teams around the world. No Laurent Fortin, plenty of "Canadiens" though. And btw, that green is a crime against PX10ity!

Decided.
It shall be white.
It shall get original decals
I shall recreate the original headbadge.
It shall cost more than I had hoped.
I ran into extreme luck when I bought a DS stronglight 93 crank and rings on ebay for a pittance, then when to a trusty co-op and asked for a match, and he actually had one! same length, still french threaded too.
I am wheels and pedals away from having everything. (aside from painting obviously)
