Commuting at Penn State

I will be moving in to Penn State and want to get a bike to get to class. Im a beginner when it comes to the bike marketplace and i want to keep my budget at around 350. Any advice on what kind of bike to get is very welcomed. I did find one hybrid bike that i like here is the link for it Raleigh cadent large. Im thinking this is my best option i was just looking for some more input!

Get a good set of locks and register the bike with campus security.

the eb and flow of used and stolen bikes is a constant at Uni town , see what you can find, cheap and homely that is already there ..
campus security often recycles abandoned bikes on most colleges ..

Or how about a folding bike you can stow in your room , in a corner ?

Just figure it out when you get to town, between Freeze-thaw bikes and Eddies, you should have no problem finding something in your budget while establishing a relationship with a local shop. Besides, State College is small, you can walk to where you need to go without any issue until you get your bike situation figured out.

2013 Raleigh Cadent FT1 - BikePedia
$400 isn't unreasonable with rack, fenders, and brand new consumable parts (chain, cassette, etc.) Curious why the rear wheel was replaced.

we also have a pretty decent bus system here. Lots of apartments have some sort of discount on bus passes. That's assuming you are going to the University Park campus, there are something like 26 campuses that consider themselves, "Penn State"

Get a heavy U-lock and cable, more importantly use them every time you leave the bike. If the seatpost has a quick release, replace it with a bolt.
My daily commuter came from Penn State 20 years ago missing a front wheel and seatpost. Part theft was rampant even then.
