Need Trailer for Groceries: Is this a good one?

Single wheel bike cargo trailer -- new

I have a 1980's Cannondale road bike and I need a trailer to haul groceries with for myself.

The trailer seems of steel construction, is maintained, and comes with a waterproof bag.

Yay or nay? Price is firm.

The folks on the Utility forum would be the ones to ask.......there's a bunch of trailer threads there.

That looks to be the single wheel trailer on eBarf that you can get for $80-90 with a storage bag and free shipping.

Also, on Amazon there's a quite long review that one guy wrote detailing all of the things that he did to his so as to make it useable.

*Probably* nay. IMO, it's not a terrible price, but like Greg mentioned you could probably save $20-30 (or more buying used) shopping around online for one of these BOB Yak knock-off trailers.

Is it a real or fake bob yak?
Yaks are good for touring and riding on rough round, with single wheel tracking.
My preference for groceries is a twin-wheel with a flatbed and box.

It looks like a Bob or Yak. That's a better deal than I see on craigslist here. Can you test drive it before purchasing?

I've seen a couple around here. The good thing about them is they have a pretty narrow foot print on the path or sidewalk. But the same can probably said for the Maya mentioned above.

For utility loads I like 2 wheel trailers Better. Had a BoB.. unless loaded Low, tight, a shifting load twists the towing bike axle.

be mindful how you load your choice....

I vote nay. It's a good trailer, but i'm not sure it will be good for groceries.

Rage Powersports » Bike Cargo Trailer This may be more in line with your envisaged use.

I also concur with the suggestion to ask and poke around in the utility forum.

I've seen that exact Yak clone and was thinking of getting one. I have a genuine Yak and have no problem with it other than that it was well over $350. At the time no one had tried cloning them. This particular clone folds flat and the carry bag doubles as a back-pack. The Maya trailer gregjones linked to is interesting, but it is a very different design. If you put "single wheel bike trailer" in Google you will probably find the clone that is being sold on Craigslist, and the price of it from the manufacturer will be better than the Craigslist seller is asking. FWIW

EDIT:

Leisesturm is right, going solely off of internet pictures.

It is NOT a current BOB trailer, either Yak or Ibex. Yak is the model---BOB makes them.

A simple search would show that it is as close to a Yak as a Kent Wally World Special is to a Tarmac.

Yak trailer, made by BOB:

I've bought used kiddie trailers for $60-90 on Craigslist. They've been serving me extremely well for years.
