Tokyo anyone?

Hi, my name is Dave and I am fairly new to this site. I live in the Tokyo area and am just looking for some people interested in doing some riding. I live in the Fussa Prefecture of Tokyo near Hachioji or Yokota AB. I know a few good trails here but I am still learning my way around them all. If anyone is interested in joining me or my group of friends sometime let me know, you are always welcome. We also road bike however I am still waiting on my new Cannondale Synapse to arrive. I am not much for the stupid crazy downhill but I love hill climbs and moderate downhills or rolling trails. I guess I am what people call a cross country cyclist. Well that is it from me for now, I just wanted to extend and invite and also give a brief introduction.

hey! theres a bunch of roadies over at the tokyo cycling club. they seem like a cool group.

lots of road bikers here, and a few MTB'ers.

Personally, I like urban cycling. =)

Hey dude! I'm chillin at Yokota AB too. Find any good rides? When it gets warmer I want to take that river trail all the way to Tokyo bay. So far the only long trip I've taken has been to Okutama. About 21miles into the mountains.

On Memorial day I rode down the Tama river from Fussa to Haneda. I'd go again most anytime. Just let me know. It is a pleasant ride. It's also nice just to ride to Tama Hills for breakfast.

whats Tama Hills?

Sorry guys I haven ot been keeping up with this forum as much as I should be. I have been wanting to do a ride down the Tama River into Tokyo also. We should plan to meet someplace one weekend and give it a shot or just ride someplace. I've been mountain biking mostly lately but I really want to get some mileage on the road bike. Let me know when is good for you and I will do my part to keep up with this post.

I have a general question about cycling in tokyo if the forum here will allow me to indulge. I'm planning on making a three week visit to Japan over the winter and would like to do some riding while I am there. I am wondering if I should try to rent a bike, just buy a cheap one for the visit while I am there, or just bring my own? Does anybody have any suggestions? thanks

EMT 08-13-07 09:36 PM

what kind of riding do you want to do? you can rent bikes in e.g. tokyo but whether or not they will suit you probably depends on how much you plan to ride.

also, how tall are you? you will not find large frames for rental most likely

I am 5'9" and I would like to do some road riding in the country and the city if I have a chance. I can't remember the name of the prefecture I'm going to be in, but I do remember that it's somewhat rural, a city of about 50,000. I also remember that it's about an hour's travel from Tokyo, so I will have access to Tokyo.
