Anyone know where I can rent a good road bike in Chiang Mai and suggest a nice 40-60 mile loop to ride?

Also, any suggestions on some really good singletrack / fast XC MTB trails in the region?

Chiang Mai is a wonderful place for road biking. Unfortunately it's not the place to hire a road bike. I don't know of any shops that hire out quality road bikes. There are many loops of the distance you mention - one local favorite is the "Samoeng Loop", basically round the mountain which is to the west off the city. To the east there is the "Huey Kaew" loop - riding out beyond San Kampaeng and back via Doi Saket.

Can't claim much knowledge about MTB trails, although I have been on some nice ones behind the "700 year stadium". These can be found by going to the recreational lake Huey Tung Tao, turning left at the lake and finding a tiny trail up into the forest at the end of the dam wall. The trail goes for about 5km and leads to some nice single track stuff.
