The last person to post before it fell in a heap was beebers. I vote we blame him.

Australian living in Hong Kong here. Got back into cycling last year in Hong Kong and have been out on the roads in Brisbane on trips back there.
Hong Kong drivers aren't great... but they're more likely to off me out of carelessness/indifference... I get the feeling back in AU that there's some seriously aggro nasty types behind the wheel. Bit of an education when I first headed out.
Still, there's nothing like heading out into the hills / Samford Valley at dawn.
I'll check back in this thread in another 3 years to see if there's been any action

I do ride with a very bright set of lights, front and back, at all times - flashing during the daytime. The phone thing has introduced a new set of problems.

Dropping in from Western Australia [Fremantle] now and then. Mostly interested in touring and bikepacking Western Australia's more remote areas. Most recent ride of note was from Esperance to Albany ...

Might jump in here.
Bought this frame a few weeks back, 'Le Kypo' Reynolds 525 built by Rob Kypriotis in Traralgon, Victoria circa 1992.
I've got most of a Shimano 600 Tricolour groupset lying around, so I'll probably throw that on it and see how it rides. Knowing me it will probably end up with Campy 8 speed in future. However, I'm looking at doing the Noosa Strade Bianche later this year, which means getting my Pinarello ready, so the Kypo is in the queue.
I compiled a Kypo history here, if anyone's interested: https://www.bicycles.net.au/forums/vi...?f=23&t=100570
Rock.

Howdy all! Only just discovered this antipodean thread
Sadly Melbourne's Share Bike scheme has just been sentenced to the scrap heap, after costing us ratepayers $2M pa since they arrived in 2010.

Yes, it's pretty sad. Not that I ever used it - if I had a helmet with me then I usually had my bike as well... But I know people who did use it extensively.

Just joined from Brissy, was hoping for more local activity, nevertheless there seems to be some good info on here. Are there any other good Aussie forums?

Anyway they left in a huff and moved to the Australia & New Zealand section over at https://www.cyclingforums.com/forums...ew-zealand.41/
I just had a look. To be totally honest, its really just a small clique chatting amongst themselves in "The thread about nothing". Other than that its pretty much the same as around here.

There used to be more here but there was a bust up. Maybe I had something to do with it, maybe I didn't.

Stage 4 lockdown here too, I'm onto my 2nd COVID retro resto build. I just got back from picking up a great condition complete Shimano 600 Tricolour groupset. It is going on a Paconi Columbus frame. Paconi (Kevin Wigham) was a local MEL frame builder in the 80s/90s.

I've been a bit lazy to be honest - only getting out once or twice a week doing a lap of Brunswick and up via Essendon to Airport West and back via Mascoma St.
Saturday morning somehow I managed to lose a quick link on my chain, so I had to walk home...luckily I observed the 5k limit!
