Searching for beachcruiser
2 Attachment(s)
Hello
I´m searching for cool bike and looks like some kind of cruiser could be the one. So far I have found several from internet but not the exact one. Something between those two in pictures would be nice. Hot Rod is quite nice but you cant raise the saddle at all, only move it horisontally. Maybe the handlebar is also bit high. Electra is ok but maybe a bit shortframed. Since I am located near to north pole, global point of view, there is not too many options to try. I have tried Felt Surf City and it was ok but Im still looking a bit longer frame, maybe a little lower, maybe bit higher handlebar. But not a chopper. Confusing? Yeah. Any ideas? Btw, I live near north pole in Europe, so bikes available in EU are top of the list. |
is the hotrod a basman model? it looks like one.
the closest mix of the two i think would be a micargi royal. it's kind of a rip off of the basman so it gets a lot of negative reviews, but the more basicness (i just made that word up) or cheapness of it might work for you. they didn't or couldn't get as tricky with the seat post so if you look at a pic of one, the seat tube isn't as curved at the top as a basman, so you can stick a regular and/or longer seatpost in it. but i'd think you could put a longer seat post in a basman too. you just wouldn't be able to push it in very far if someone shorter wanted to ride it. https://www.google.com/search?q=mica...7zpDUk5YpIM%3A |
Get something adequate, , buy and change the handlebars and such to make it more like you need .
Dont like a part chosen for low price to make the selling cost low enough to attract you Buying it , buy something nicer and change that too. Then, You dont have to keep looking for perfectly what you wish for, in every aspect , before you buy anything. |
Thanks for answers.
I was thinking maybe buying Electra and changing handlebars. Today I notice that there is also bended seatposts in market, maybe them together will give me sort of stretched feel. Has anyone any experience of such posts? Are they strong enough for 200 lbs? |
Is there a real difference between Electra Cruiser and Electra Cruiser Tall? I´m still thinking of options to bit streched frafe / feel, but not too much.
Electra Sparker, any opinions? Seems to have 24" rear tire, fatter though. How does that compare to 26"? |
My recomendation is get out from in front of your computer. Go to a shop that sells the bikes you are interested in and ride them. Bikes are like clothes. You need to test fit before you buy. What I might like you may hate. What fits any of the rest of us may not fit you. This going to require a bit of physical research on your part. Roger

Thank for your advice Roger.
As you probably read from my first post, or maybe not, I do not have too many bikes here for testing, so this advice was in fact a useless one. I have tested the ones nearby, shop-owner was kind and let me try his own bikes. Next ones will available some time at spring. If it is ok with you, I will be doing my research via computer since they arrive. Before that I will do my physical stuff on ice with skates. |
Electra Cruiser 1, I have it it's very nice. Long feeling, good handling. Looks great! I get a lot of compliments.

Could always go for a rat fink, ghostrider, 8 ball etc quite roomy Electras, i want the new 2016 cruiser lux 7d fat wheel version, had a rallysport before, single speed and was super comfy and used to ride 40 miles + often on it, great bikes and plenty in europe, check ebay also.

Go super cheap if you are going to buy a semi-recumbent. There is a certain way to pedal them to make them 'move out' (at least with enough speed to keep up with a cheap 10 speed (and only if the wind is blowing against the both of you)). Your leg has to explode on the power stroke and it is only for a short moment. Sustainable only due to the increased time your legs get to rest for the rest of the stroke. It is a very conscious effort. Plus standing up on a crank forward bicycle is like balancing on a 2x4, very awkward. Also when I got mine and rode it around it was like riding on top of a superball, bouncing all over the place, fun though, I could pretend I was riding the BatCycle. haa haa .. Making a turn at the end of a road felt like I was going to tip over to the outside. But, I've got room, lots and lots of room. Raised handlebars, upright position, can turn around and see everything going on around me.
My bike now looks like a truck cycle. So the cool looks evaporate if you want something you can sweep in a 'U' turn and stand on the pedals and haul. And now I'm in a decision on whether to drop my bottom bracket (from straight centerline) by putting on a shorter fork or doing something about the pedal stroke. uhh... the modifications keep piling up. |
