I guess it's the same townie, but now you can go on paths? It looks like the same bike with now 9 speeds. I ride my Townie as a beach cruiser I ride on bike paths and packed gravel trails. Maybe Electra is just trying to utilize the bike differently. Not sure maybe it's a marketing ploy.

I have the townie 7d , the path looks pretty good why is the 27speed cheaper than the 9 speed variant

Most new bikes this would be true. I found on the used bike market 21d, 27d Townie bikes are cheaper. Maybe Electra has more 27d bikes that they need to move.
