Building a Bike
Is there anything in biking more satisfying and enjoyable as putting together a “new” bike with an old , saved, frame ?
Except maybe riding it afterwards. :) I think I enjoy both equally. This morning I’m building up an old steel Fuji MTB frame into a single speed coaster , cruiser, klunker , or whatever you want to call it . I spray bombed the frame stain black yesterday , the finish came out ok . About what the bikes I built back in my teens looked like. I’m using a set of black Cruiser wheels with 26x1.5 Kenda Kwest tires . Box 31.8 BMX bars . Rear cog will be a 22 tooth and the chainring a 30 tooth . A slow cruising bike that will let me tackle what hills we have around here and still average between 9-10mph . It’s not going to be a racer . More of a pedal , then coast bike . Coaster brake rear with v brakes up front. I’ll post a picture or two when I’m done. |
Almost done ! They’re never completely finished. They continue to evolve.
But , it was ready for a five mile cruise around the neighborhood. I think it’s a winner ! I was going to go all black , but decided to add a little color with the stem , grips , and bar ends . https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...affb99559.jpeg |
Nice. I like it. I agree with you on building a "New" bike....:thumb:

Bike was perfect for the rolling paths that have a good many root bumps that make it like a paved mountain bike trail . Along with some rough street crossings. Beautiful low 70’s sunny day . Averaged 7.8 mph |
It is fun. I pretty much build all of my bikes. I enjoy collecting the parts, installing them, and then riding a more "personalized" bike with everything I want, and nothing I don't.
