I built this bike for the Interbike trade show in the 90's. Some parts were made by Topline Cranks. Chainstays and fork blades were taper swaged at Hooker Headers. All the tubing was first annealed and then bent on wooden forms, then heat treated after welding. The hubs are the first "Curtis Odom" hubs and the late Steve Hed supplied the rims. The bike weighed 18 pounds and had a significant impact on launching the cruiser boom.

I'd say you achieved Cruiser Nirvana...

Modified a 1992 Trek 8000 MTB into a 1 x 8 multi-geared cruiser (got the bike with no FD). The lower gears give me the ability to 'cruise', higher gears give me some "giddy-up-and-go" to get where I'm goin'. :thumb:

That have a coaster brake or were you running fixed gear?

Good eye. Yes this bike has a coaster brake. The key is it has a hidden brake arm that faces backwards inside the teardrop rear dropout and is through bolted to the dropout.

OK, that's where I thought those teardrops came in. Most people complain about the weight of cruisers and trying to drag them up stairs into apartments. Looks like you solved that issue...but I'm sure you priced yourself out of the market with all the high-end parts. I bet it's the fastest ride on the beach.

Sorry, not me. I assume you are talking about making Honda Hawk parts, most of my motorcycle work has been on Brit cafe racers.

My father is a Bill Odom but fortunately he is still with us. I machine and fabricate things but I am not a machinist, I am a designer. The heavy lifting for my production work is done by an old friend Ricky Cruz.

nope, not the same as the one i recently posted. about threes weeks after i got the first one, a second one popped up in the same city. took a couple of weeks of trying to get together with the owner (i had phone issues and he would hardly do email), but i drove up last weekend and got it too.

this has some chipped paint, slightly rusted rims and the tires are a little checkered, but i don't mind. now i have a nice one not to mess with and one... well... it's gonna get messed with.

some crank and sprocket experiments first. 7 1/2 in crank, and a dual sprocket that i think is about 30t for the small, and 42t for the large. i forgot what i counted, and didn't count the rear sprocket to know exact ratios (at work, i'll do it sometime or another).

it makes me wonder why coker used so small a crank and sprocket. i wear a size 11 shoe. not exactly gunboats, but i thought i'd need to be careful with the longer arms. it's really not a problem. i tried to just have my toes on the pedals at first, but just putting them on somewhat normally (i guess, i don't really think about where my foot is on the pedals that much), i was able to ride and turn fine.

same with the bigger sprocket. i just tried the 30t since i didn't have enough chain to make the 42t work, but again, it rode fine. no unusually hard pedal effort like i was guessing. i'll probaly do some more sprocket experiments later, and see how big i can go practically. for now i think i may keep this dual sprocket as the the one i use. i want rear gears, so if i go with an internal hub i may try something else, or use a tensioner and a front deraileur.

so if you luck into one maybe take a shot at it. i think it can be made more rideable. time will tell.

I got one. Handlebars are very close to the top tupe and will gouge the paint if you or the bike shop are not careful. I took delivery of mine with the scratched top tube and will eventually add a leather top tube cover. I put mine3 in the living room also it is not weird it is a symbol of commitment.

i have a couple in my living room, and one in the kitchen. it's a symbol that i need to stop buying bikes and clean out my garage.
