Thanks! I think if I was to have just 1 bike this would be it. I was thinking of a carbon fork but the my original steel Fatty fork looks pretty good. May have to get it powder coated and build me some lightweight wheels with some Marge Lites. It weighs just a little over 30 lbs with the Surly Black Floyds.
While I was tempted to say "No way...it's beautiful just the way it is!", I'll never stop modifying my own bikes, and thus, such advice would be that of a hypocrite. Is the weight a concern for you based on lugging the bike around up stairs/in and out of cars, or were you just wanting to see how it rides with lighter components? I would also say to leave the Fatty fork in place, but that's only based off of a mistrust of carbon...a carbon fork would certainly lighten the load a bit. Either way you go, this bike looks like it can do it all, and with style.

2010 Corvette build complete! (Sort of)
@SquidPuppet: Here she is...MSRP of the original Corvette sat around $300...my build came out to about $280, but I didn't have a bunch of stock parts left over to add to the clutter in my house. Everything is pretty much exactly as I wanted it, save for the fact that the frame came without Schwinn's little "gas tank" (cup holder). I'm thinking of putting something else in there, but haven't quite decided what to do just yet...easiest thing to fill that gap would be a seat bag from another bike tied down and reversed, or I could have some metal shaped/wood cut; either way, that internal debate could go on for weeks. The B-67 saddle was moved over from the last cruiser I purchased. GR is 44:20, and the ride is S-M-O-O-T-H, but thanks to the combination of Thickslicks + Mr Tuffy's + Thorn-resistant tubes, the rolling resistance is noticeable. In my eyes, it's worth the flat protection since I'll mostly use this for fun-time cruising...might attach a trunk rack later and commute on it to see how she does.
Thoughts?
Edit: Sorry for the crappy photos. One of these days I'll get around to photographing my stable with the 40D.

Here's my Walmart Schwinn Jaguar Klunker. Just waiting on my Avid v brakes to arrive. I picked the bike up from a local shop for just a few bucks. I stripped the entire thing and got rid of everything right down to the headset. I have maybe 50 bucks into this with stuff I've had laying around. I had an old 60's Columbia straight bar frame but this is built a little beefier for what I want to do.

I want a front rack like the one on this bike. Anyone have any info on getting one?
I think my current bike build may belong here at Beach Cruisers.
Started out as a cheapie bikesdirect.com city bicycle. Town Bikes | Classic, Stylish City Bikes | Urban Bikes | Commuter Road Bikes | Windsor Essex from bikesdirect.com
Added a Brooks saddle, antique handlebars, stem and front rack from an old Dutch bike, removed fenders and added huge cream tires.
Also addded a beautiful chainguard from Velo-Orange

Here is my cruiser. He is a Schwinn frame, manufactured in 1980.
I decided to keep the original "patina" frame, handlebars and various other pieces, but add some bling to the bottom half.
Wheels are Weinmann AS7X. Spokes are electro polished SS. Tires are Bontrager, Hank. 26X2.20.
Front hub; Shimano HB-MN 72, high flange. slow release axle skewer.
Rear hub; 3 speed internal gear Shimano, SG-3R35. Roller brake, Interim BR-1M41R. 20 tooth sprocket.
Crank set; 3 piece, sealed bearing, Primo Power Bite 180mm. GT, CNC black anodized, 46T sprocket.
Stem; SR Sakae, Double clamp (slingshot) with BMX handlebars. CODA brake levers.
My near future plans include front brake and a set of shorty fenders.

Started out with this used Schwinn frame. Unfortunately many images of the creation steps in between are missing.
Ended up with this and I am not really done yet. Actually I am looking for a new frame, since I am tall, have long legs and feel sometimes to big for this ride.
Of course I will need proper grips and saddle too. Also thought of a layback saddle post for both bikes. Seemingly I am to heavy. :-(
My other cruiser which I bought like this. Nearly no modification.

1949. Remarkable to me in that it seems untouched by customizer or ham fisted mechanic. I am the 3rd owner. Grease in rear hub is so hardened the wheel barely turns. What amazes me is the condition of the tires. Don't know if they are original, but they are quite old and unusual. Unfortunately seat leather is beyond help and will need the attention of a pro who can replace it.

2003 Cruiser 3
My 2003 Cruiser 3 that lived by the beach the first part of it's life. Instead of re-chroming the fork crown, crank, and sprocket, which were badly rusted when I rescued it, I removed them and meticulously sanded, primed, and painted them gloss black with several coats sanding and cleaning between coats. Finally polishing them with fine wax, 0000 steel wool, and lots of clean soft cloths. I think it turned out good and saved me a grip of cash on chroming.
