What qualifies a bike as a beach cruiser

What qualifies a bike as a beach cruiser
I think I have a pretty good idea of what a beach cruiser is, but with the countless variations of bicycles out there, what actually qualifies a bike as a cruiser?
Here is what I think I know so far (feel free to correct or add):
- upright riding position
- fat tires (whitewalls preferred)
- single speed or IGH ???
- fenders and chain guard a plus
So, what am I missing? Does any bike with an upright position and fat tires qualify?
